Yeah, I suppose... Its all relative. I have been collecting drums and cymbals for many years now, and I have few other hobbies/interests. There is little doubt that I am a Paiste Whore! Here is a pic of my "big kit"...
All Paiste and Sonor.

32ndHB, thanks man... I have been having an affair with Paiste for 20+ years.
Personally, my favorites are the Dimensions series... but they have been discontinued. IMO, the Dimensions Power Crash, was the best Heavy rock crash ever made.

nice gear, and welcome to the forum. can't wait for a review on those offset pedals. i've been curious about them for a couple years.
maple goodness......

Funky, thanks bro... I have not tried the "off-set" -pedal, myself yet. Although Ive dreamed of that configuration for years. To me, it just makes more sense, ergonomically.
Im so used to playing a double bass kit.... facing straight forward is just normal to me.
I actually play with my hi-hat pedal (cable type) sitting to the inside of my left bass drum pedal on my big kit. (look close at the pic) This too keeps me facing forward while playing.
When I get the off-set pedal... I will let everyone know what I think. However, Im confident in the reviews I have read, and am expecting to be very happy with it.

Welcome to DrumChat! If you don't mind, I'm thinking I should call you "Vegas." I tend toward using everyone's initials, but calling you "VD" just doesn't seem right!
Which series is your Sonor kit, Vegas? Stix518 is a bit Sonor guy, too, so I'm sure he'd like to know, as well. It's a beautiful set-up, and at the same time I notice that your new project is downsized. Is that because you're tired of the breakdown and set-up of such a large kit (or is it that the roadies are complaining )?
It's good to have another experienced drummer in here for the other expereinced drummers to talk with. They must get a little tired of talking to us newer drummers all the time! Although I certainly appreciate learning from all the experience that is here.

PB, thanks for the welcome. People here seem very cool.
I hope that I can offer some advise and learn a few things as well.
You can call me "Vegas" if you like... or Matt. Either or, is fine. :-)
My Sonor kit is a Phonic plus kit, that I ordered brand new way back in 1987, from Valley drum shop in North Hollywood CA.
I own more than my share of kits... but my Sonor kit has a special place in my heart.
As for downsizing... I rarely play my Sonors out. I keep them nice and safe at home or in the studio. The size of my drumsets varries by the mood Im in.
Most of the kits I have used in live playing situations, are much smaller than my Sonor kit. Its just too much work to move that much stuff.
The idea behind my new set-up (the one in the drawing) is that for the first time ever, I am only going to play one model of cymbals. I have always played Paiste exclusively, but there has always been a mix of 2002's Signatures, Dimensions, Rudes, Formula 602's, 3000's and so on. This time, my new set-up will be exclusively 2002's.
Its not exactly a huge revalation or anything... but its something that I want to do. Plus, I love the whole line of 2002's... and Im excited about how they will all work (sound) together.
Thanks again to everyone for the welcome...

new member - it happens sometimes, they'll show up when the admins know for sure your not a spammer
BTW - welcomes, nice setup, like it allot, wondering about those rack tom/snare positons, how does that effect your position at the kit relative to the floor toms - pretty big gap going that way, so i'm curious to see how you play it - i mean in the actual photo of your kit BTW, not the projected idea

Why hello there, welcome to the thead, nice avatar =P
Anyway, that looks like it would be pretty fun to gig with, go for it man
Ive seen those off balance pedals before, and heard about how theres no more chewed up bass ring, but ive heard of a ton of lag going on with the pedals though, youll hvae to get one and let me know how it works out
Welcome to the site, Vegas! It's nice to see there are more "Paiste whores" around here. I use all Paiste Alpha's and 802's and I'm getting ready to pick up some signatures pretty soon. Excellent quality and awesome sound. I would'nt play anything else....

Just out of curiosity, is that a bass drum on it's side next to your floor tom? It might be a dumb question if I'm wrong lol, but I've just never seen Aquarian heads on toms like that.

Paiste cymbals are great! Great quality and affordable priices. I looked and tried Zildjain ZXT's and ZHT's, and read a lot of reviews. And what got me the most aside from owning a Paiste 16" crash years ago was the sound and price. Now I just recently bought a Paiste PST 5 20" medium ride and PST 5 14" medium hats and love them.
The ride is smooth and can double as a light crash, especially when doing standard rock or jazz rythems when you want to add some extra kick to the ride playing.
I also liked the fact that the PST 5s are cast rather than sheet.
