I need a snare head that can be tuned super high, but does not dent when hit hard.

Aquarian has many tough heads young grasshopper, the Hi Energy or the Triple Threat are very thick.

lol sorry I if you read that with an old man asian voice it's kinda funny. The Hi-Velocity ones are pretty good too. All of em can be tuned super high and tight. They really sound good to me on my birch and brass.

Usualy when heads dent it means they are not tight enough but if they are tight then I agree that you are hitting too hard. You can only tighten a head so much before they pop or damge the drum.

dented heads= hitting to hard, or hitting with the tip or the wrong angle. I will suggest Aquarian Hi-Energy as well, its made for heavy hitters, it stood up to Dave Grohl.

I put one of those on that Remo had for awhile. Once it started to wear out it sounded like hitting mud. Do they still make those? Weren't they called flamsII or something like that?

I read this on another drum forum regarding Kevlar snare heads.

Kevlar heads are made for high tension marching snare drums. If you put a kevlar head on a normal drumset snare it will either warp and bend it or just sound extremely deep. ...

I've had a Kevlar head on my old drum set snare (Ludwig Rocker II). It had the tight crack of a marching snare, it did not mess with the drum at all. It lasted me forever! However with my new kit, I have used a Evans HD Dry which was great. I just switched to an Evans EC1 Reverse Dot and I love it even more.

Evans modified their Kevlar marching head and now makes a Kevlar head specifically for drum kit snares. The sound sample on their website sounds pretty good. They're pretty expensive, though, compared to a regular snare head.
