I hear you Rick. What I am getting at is we where so underpaid for our gigs that I think a tip jar would of help more than the free beers we would get from the fans. I did not drink back then and still don't. I remember carrying some of the band guys out cause they were so drunk from the free beer LOL

Just remember that tip jars, in the States, seem to be popping up everywhere, and in the most crude manner. Most that I have seen have "Tips" roughly hand written on a piece of paper that was torn off and was taped to the jar. My feeling is that if it is done, just make sure it is done well. Otherwise it can be seen as just someone else with their hand out. Make is classy, or don't do it.

Maybe so Rick. I don't have to worry about it anyway. I don't play $50 gigs. Mine are all freebies. We got another invite to play this past month, but then got bumped by a young up and coming female country singer. I got a look at her picture . . . I would have bumped us too!

I think a tip jar is....desperation on behalf of the band...if you are good enough to be playing professionally..and each band that plays bars and is paid...its a profession then..maybe not full time..but would you pay a " for fun mechanic" to work on your car?
Enjoy the Music!

The only bands around here I ever see with tip jars are cover bands. Some crappy some good.
I never see a band that plays all originals put out a tip jar. Merch and CDs or whatever are usually where extra income is generated.
I personally would feel awkward putting out a tip jar. I play to rock out and have fun. Not pedal for tips.
But I'm not trying to make a living off music either cause I know I'd starve to death.
Depending on the venue, they are pretty popular around here. Very venue specific.
I prefer requests sent directly to me on $20 bills.
all the best...
Even better, get a good pay rate from the venue owner.
All the bands around here use tip jars.
Last week one guy put money in the glass that holds my business cards.
I'm o.k. with tip-jars. One of those really big glass pickle jars with a wide mouth lid removed. This with the words "Thank-you" on the jar doesn't warrant additional advertising. As a patron, I always add to the band's tip-jar.
Most definitely. As a matter of fact, there will be "NO LIMIT"... just an unending quagmire of musical genius.
