Jeeze!!
I just bought a pair of 15" hats and love them.
Sabian also just came out with 16" AAX Ex-Plosion hats. I would have bought some but I couldn't find any used demos on ebay.
They are FUN.
We were looking for a bigger sound for the room mics to pick up so as a sort-of joke I took my cracked 20" Meinl Byzance crash with a 20" Bosphorus ride and made them into hats.
Woah.
I don't think I would ever play with hats this big regularly, but they worked perfect for the song. The closed sound is MASSIVE and when you open them up it is just a wall of hi-hat goodness.
I have a cracked 17" K crash that I think I'm going to try to use to make a 17" pair of hats that I would actually use on a regular basis.

My god that looks ridiculous lol. And I thought 15" hats were massive..
But if it works for you, that's what you gotta do.
Hope your hhts stand holds up cause you would'nt want it to collapse in the middle of a gig.
I did that with 2 20" cymbals before too, just for fun. Super low-pitched. I can't imagine using them for anything more than an experiment, but it sounded pretty cool.
How good was the response time on the up and down? That weight puts some load on the spring I would imagine.
all the best...
I was thinking the same thing, the weight would stress out the machinism . My 21 sweet ride is sitting on a double braced stands cause she is heavy and I could not see two 20 on a hht stand. Anything is possible I guess.

I'd love to hear a sample of what those 20" hats sound lime!
When I first started playing, my stick fell short of my 13" hi-hats fairly often, so I asked my teacher about 22" hi-hats because that would be a bigger target. He said what was said above about the stand not being able to support the weight. Either he or my drummer friend said that the top would be too heavy to work with my foot. The other point was that I would have to place the stand too far away to work with my foot. However, I have fairly long legs. I am not terribly tall (5' 7"), but if my legs were proportional to my torso, I'd be a few inches shorter.

May this be the best day you ever had and the worst you ever will. Trinity House Mudslinger.
Is there like a trend of big hi-hats coming?
I notice people having their hihats at 16'', 18'' or 20'' more often and Sabian has even launched a legit product of 18'' hats (that look atrocious by the way)
copy and Paiste
Good 15" seem to hit a sweet spot for me. Those istanbul in the video above are very articulate for footwork.. and the 16" i got only because they are the only non sloshy 16" hats i've ever played. Funny.. the 16" are lighter than the 15"
It might depend on the stand you have. The DW9000 stand holts them up just fine. Foot control is obviously slower, but there was still definitely a lot of control there.
I will probably never use 20" hats for real, but I wouldn't mind a pair of 16" hats down the road.
