Also... I just ran across a Sonor Force 2007 (birch) kit, 6 piece... 10x8, 12x9, 14x14 floor, 16x16 floor, 22x17.5 bass, 14x5.5 snare.
Anyone have a 2007 kit? Any thoughts on this one?
Thank you.
Ok everyone... Need some help here! What would be the best option out of these three? Only looking at shell packs...not really considering hardware right now.
1. Sonor Force 3007
2. PDP Concept Maple
3. Mapex Meridian Maple
I was leaning toward the PDP Concept Maple, however, I'm not a big fan of the tom mount design. It doesn't look very sturdy. I have read a few posts online (not necessarily here at drum chat) that said the tom mount is weak. Not sure what to believe. The Sonor and Mapex tom mounts appear to be very sturdy.
As far as quality is concerned, I am aware of the quality of the Sonor 3007's and I think they are the best looking kit out of the three. As far as sound is concerned, I would imagine that all three are very close. Very uncertain as to the quality of the PDP Concept Maple kits and the Mapex Meridian Maple kits. I've heard a few good things about both of them, but undecided as to what way to go with this.
So... If I may ask, who would choose what? And why would you choose it?
Thank you.

The 2007's are the same as 3007's just birch instead of Maple.
If it were me and the prices were all within $100 I would probably go with the Sonor. I am assuming they are all Brand new, The 3007's are discontinued?
The Pdp Concepts look fantastic IMO (especially the white). Mapex Meridians are right up there too but I also think they are discontinued.
Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with any of them so just pick what looks best to you.
BTW pdp concept comes in Birch as well if you want birch

Meridians are current models. I like mapex myself, but if they are all pretty similar then I would go with what feels and sounds best to you. I have an older mapex mars kit which I really like. It has maple shells. Hardware is pretty sturdy. Haven't had a problem so far.

Really, to me, all pretty comparable. Going to come down to what you like best. Me? I'd go with the Mapex.
I'd go with the PDP or Sonor, I can tell you from experience that PDP makes excellent drums, and their hardware is definitely not weak at all.
Happy Drumming!

Looking like it's down to the Sonor Force 2007 or the PDP Concept kit. Fairly certain at this point as to which one it's going to be, but still thinking it over...just a bit.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and comments so far!
If it were me i'd say get the Concept Maple. I've never played the other two but from experience of owning the PDP CM it sounds and looks great. Also the issue with the tom mount, I've never had a problem with mine, it's not weak at all. Good luck on your decision.
I can only say that my Sonor's are awesome. They are the last year of 3007's. The tone and presence are beautiful. As far as I know, the 3007 shells were made in the same factory that Gretsch and Mapex use. The tom mount is referred to as "the weapon" in my house because it's heavy enough to bring down an intruder. The lacquer finish is really nicely done. I looked at all the other kits you have mentioned when I was shopping as well. The excellent Sonor reputation and resale value was also a big factor.
Pics when it happens, please!!

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!
At this point, I'm leaning toward the Sonor 2007. It is a 6 piece and I was really wanting a 7 piece, which is the configuration I was looking at in the PDP Concept Maple kit. I'm comparing birch to maple, but from what I have read, both of these kits are great, so it really doesn't matter much to me.
With the Sonor 2007 6-piece, it would be somewhere around $650.00, I believe. I really want the 8" x 7" mounted tom to add to this kit, but I can't find one anywhere after a very extensive search. I'd even take a 13" x 10", but I can't find one of those anywhere either. I really like the finish on the Sonor kit...it is the Blue Fade color and I think it looks great from what I have seen in pictures of it. To be honest, it's the color that is pushing me towards the 2007 kit, but I need to find the 8" or 13" tom and I'm having no luck at all. Anyone have one of these they are willing to sell??!!
With the PDP Concept Maple 7-piece kit, it would be around $729.00. My color choice on this one would be the Silver to Black Sparkle Fade...really nice sparkle finish that appears to look slightly purple (at least in pictures that I have seen) near the fade area If I take this route, I am getting the 8" x 7" mounted tom with the kit. However...the Blue Fade color of the Sonor 2007 keeps calling me back.
I called a dealer that supposedly acquired 10 of the Sonor 2007 8" toms in Blue Fade awhile back. I thought maybe I hit it lucky and they still had one sitting around...no such luck.
If I could just find an 8" x 7" or 13" x 10" 2007 mounted tom in Blue Fade...my decision would be made. Can anyone help me out if they have one of these they want to sell or possibly point me in the right direction to find one of these toms?
Thanks!
Well... I was going to post in the "WANTED TO BUY" section of the classifieds here to try to find one of the two Sonor toms that I'm looking for, but it says I can't post there until I have at least 100 posts elsewhere on the forum.
I completely agree with this for someone that is trying to sell on the classifieds. But I can't figure out why 100 posts would be required for a member that is LOOKING TO BUY something from another member? Doesn't seem to make any sense to me at all. So much for what I thought was a good idea. At less than 25 posts currently, I guess it's going to take awhile.
Might be giving up on the 2007's...not sure just yet. But still no luck in finding one of the two toms I was looking for...time to give up on that I guess. I'm considering the Sonor Essential Force kit in Blue Fade, depending on what kind of pricing I can get. I'm sure it will be quite a bit more expensive compared to the deal I can get on the 2007's. I have a few calls in to some dealers, just waiting to hear back from them. I believe these are currently backordered...60-90 day wait from what I hear.

Well... Looks like the 7-piece Essential Force kit with 200 Series hardware pack is out of the running. Best price I got was $1,107.45 with tax from the closest Guitar Center with a 60-90 day backorder. They said if I found a lower price, to get it in writing and bring it in and they would match it. Haven't been able to find anything lower. The next best price was $1,150 from an online retailer. If Guitar Center could have came in a little lower (around $100 or so), I may have went for it. I asked them, and they said they couldn't do it without having a lower price in writing from another dealer.
So...it looks like I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the Force 2007 6-piece kit (shell pack, no hardware) in Blue Fade for around $650. I'll just have to keep a constant search going for the 8x7 or 13x10. I was hoping to find either the 8 or the 13 before buying the kit itself, but it just doesn't look like it's possible anytime soon.
Regarding to the 100 post issue... I'm not a moderator of DC or even a top dog yet, but I think what DC is trying to do is to get you involved in the forums, they want to become an an established member by interacting with others drummers, once you do that, and reach that 100 post goal, I suppose DC now believes you are involved and established enough to use its forum to trade, sell and buy.
Regarding your kit issue, personally I don't think you should choose a kit because it has a nice finish. The pdp seemed like it would've suited you well considering the drums and sizes you wanted. But since your set on the sonor, i'd say just get the six piece, and order the extra tom.
Happy Drumming!

FWIW, Mapex doesn't use the factory, they own it, and they've made every Sonor force drum from the '01s to present.
The Sonors are nice kits but God help you trying to find add ons. Sonor has never kept a lot of inventory in the US. You might search years before you find extra toms you need.
The answer to all "Which one should I buy?" questions is the same. Play them and choose the one that sounds best to you.
I would agree with that. They never seem to have much inventory. They have no 2007 drums left at all, which I somewhat expected because they have been discontinued for approximately two years now. All they currently had available in the Essential Force series was black and another color which I can't remember right now. I would think they lose business by not keeping a better inventory readily available. Not everybody wants to wait on a 60-90 day (sometimes up to six month) backorder. If it's for an SQ2 kit, I could understand the wait.
I have a new Mapex Meridian Maple and it's a fantastic drum set. Much better than I had even anticipated after trying it out. My kit tunes unbelievably easily, sound amazing with Coated Emperors on it, and the quality is excellent.
I looked at the Concept Maple but didn't like the look of it as much (lugs particularly) and it was pricier I believe at the time.
I've seen some very good prices on Meridian Maple kits in the last few weeks, so you might want to look around. I've seen $599 for a 5 pc.
