I saw Virgil play a masterclass at the London Drum Show in 2012. Outstanding simply isn't a word good enough to describe what I witnessed!
He was demonstrating his theory of ensuring that, whilst playing polyrhythms, it must groove. He started with playing:
4 beats per measure with his right hand
5 with his left foot
6with his lest hand
7 with his right foot
He had me just with this but the guy had the audacity to rotate through almost all the possibilities of the above. His ability to apply independence to his limbs and to actually groove is a measure of the man's talents, his dedication and his musicality.
I even got one of his sticks at the end of the show - heavy thing it is too!

Check out some early Virgil. The guy's been an Aussie drum phenom for quite a while.
Virgil's soloing starts around the 5:30 mark here if you're wondering.
But his whole performance is worth listening to. So on the money.
This is around somewhere in the 80's.
Another clip from the 80's. Might have even been his first drum video.
This though was the Virgil Donati video to get your hands on when I was a younger player.
I think I've still got my "Obsessive Rhythms" shirt around somewhere!

I attended a Virgil Donati clinic in 2004. Dude played for 45 minutes straight and never repeated himself. It was mind boggling.

wow I've never heard of him and watching the first video alone made my mind explode
I remember seeing Virgil at some Drummers Fest 89/90 (? - memory failing), at Darlington, in Sydney. (across the road from Uni of Sydney).
@Drumbledore - last video you posted (out of the 3) has Virgil playing 2000 Sound Reflections. Nice.

Saw Virgil twice in clinic and once with Holdsworth. He is indeed a weapon behind the kit. Very devoted player, and is an inspiration to us older guys, in his mid fifties now I think and can bury most younger players with his stamina and chops.
