Call me Goofy but how come we can't count at least our
cymbals too when counting the PIECES of a drum kit again?

Cause it wasn't established that way. But if you want to, go ahead. Count all your stands while you're at it, and your drum keys and your stick bag.

Drummer Tom, you could change it if you wanted too! Everybody listens to you!

If the count included cymbals, it would be a little confusing. "Oh, I have an eight piece kit". Is that four drums and four cymbals? Five drums and three cymbals?

Now see I understood that the first time!

I think the "piece count" should only be for bass and toms....no snare.

    Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!

The snare is a drum, and part of the set. Why not count it?

I’ve seen ads for a "7 piece drum kit" and there are only 4 drums in the picture. Good thing that we have pictures.

I love seeing an ad in Craigslist for a 18-piece drumkit. Then you open the link, and it's a pic of a 5-piece groove percussion and a basic cymbal set-up.

I guess they were counting wing-nuts too.

Only counting the hi hats once...I have a 16 piece. 8 up and 8 down.

(LL) Sounds simple to me! Should I gather my things and leave?

Make that 17 pieces, 8 up and 9 down I forgot the bass drum.

Toy manufacturers are famous for that. Countless times I've seen a kid's drumset in Walfart or ToysAREaBust that says 10 piece kit and it's only 3 pcs.

I have to laugh when I see used drums on Ebay or Craigslist selling an 8 piece set or bigger and there is on 5 drums.

I thought we only counted the drums because it's already a stretch for any of us to count past 4. Adding the cymbals would get most of us into double digit counting.

Just because it gets confusing when talking about shell packs. Usually the snare is included, sometimes it isn't. I've seen a 22/12/13/16 advertised as a 4pc, but I've also seen a 22/12/16/snare advertised as a 4pc. Im thinking the snare is so much of a necessity, it should just be on its own.

I always counted double ply heads as two pieces and also count the reso head as another piece. I also include my sticks, the lugs on the heads and pedals.

Because we're actually drummers, not just people trying to clear out their atics or basements on craigslist.
    Mmm... Saturns.
