Plain coated ambo at first see what the drum really sounds like, and then decide if what it needs.

Either a coated Ambassador like NR sez...or my personal favourite: Coated Ambassador X.

You can't go wrong either way.

Nice collection of snares you've got there Itch. As for what head? Like NR said, try a coated Ambassador and then see how you go from there. Jarrah blocks are a pretty thick shell, aren't they?

    I'd take Northern's advice,

Go with a Remo Ambassador, or any other non-dampened head. This is a beautiful piece of wood, and removing tone isn't what you want to do. Let that drum sing as purely, and loudly as it can. If you need to tame overtones, use a single piece of Moongel if necessary. TONE, embrace it.

Well I took the Brady on its first show last night and it sang ... Couldn't remember the last time I had five drummers rush up to the stage and ask what snare i was using ..

Amazing how different it sounded on stage

Looks like I will keep this head untill it dies

I've got 2 Brady's. I put coated Emperors on both. On my 14x6.5 Jarrah block it's a little too much. On my 12x7 York Gum block it sounds excellent. For my 14 I'm going back to the CS dot soon - that seems to be the magic bullet.
