    Default Getting a new kit!

So I'm thinking of getting a new kit, I'm thinking of three at the moment,

    1. Truth Custom Drums custom designed kit

    2. DW Custom Designed kit

    3. Crush Chameleon Ash.

what do you think? (I'll post pics when I get it)

The Crush kit is significantly cheaper in price than the other two you named... From what I've read, Crush is a decent kit, but in my humble opinion, not even in the same league as the other two. They do have some cool finishes though!

If you've got the money for a DW.... go for it. I wish I could!
    Kits:

    2014 Gretsch Catalina Club Classic 4pc Ocean Twilight Sparkle 8x12, 14x5.5, 14x14, 14x20

1976 Ludwig Classic 6pc Black Diamond Pearl (Restoration in progress)

    Saluda Cymbals:

13" Symbolic Prototype Hand Hammered Jazz Hi Hats
    20" Earthworks Medium Crash/Ride
    15" Mist X Crash
    8" Decadence China Blast Splash

    16" Rancan China

    I agree with chick.

Both Truth and DW are amazing kits to own. Either will serve you well.

If given the choice, I'd go with the DW kit...something in glass glitter.

In thinking ahead in the context of RESALE VALUE............you will do best with the DW.

I would say Dw because they actually build there shells. Not saying keller shells are bad but when Matt Greiner switched from truth to DW there's a reason for it. Thing with Truth is they are like most other small places they get there stuff from keller they get hard wear from somewhere else. Drill cut do some crazy cool finish put it all together and sell it they all do pretty much the same.

I realize that unboxing a new drumkit is a really special moment, but unless you are wanting something highly specialized, I'd always look towards the used market. People that had custom kits made that are now trying to sell them are taking an absolute bath in their re-sale value. Now is the time to jump if you are looking for something high end at a decent price.

No offense to any of these companies intended, but none. I'd scour ebay/craigslist/guitarcenter for a good deal on a mid to high end used kit(paying retail for the same set of drums is absurd). The reasons why:

    1. sometimes you're able to haggle a better deal, or trade
    2. no lengthy wait times, shipping costs can be lessened
    3. more for your money, and less spent overall
    4. personal service vs corporate customer service

I have a set of DWs, I bought them new in the summer of 2008. I was going to order a kit, I found a set very close to what I would have ordered and saved a ton of money.

This photo was taken the day that I bought them. (If you look close, you'll tags still hanging from some of the shells. lol)

Hi, not familiar with crush, but from the other two I would choose DW custom. From my little bit of experience, they are well built and best value. But it is your choice, look forward to seeing what you end up with.

Truths awesome. Zac Ferro used them before going to Gretsch I perfered his Gretsch kit though. he has a 20x18 Floor tom! Insane. I personally would go for the DW.

I'll bet that have the glass glitter finish, and I realize that pictures don't do them justice.

I'd love to get my Pearls wrapped in something like that.

I would go DW as well. If I were ever in the market for a new kit, that is what I'd get. They seem to do some really innovative things with shell construction!
My kit: OCDP Custom drums, Zildjian cymbals, Tama hardware, Evans heads, Pro-Mark drumsticks, Roland electronics, LP aux percussion, Roc-N-Soc throne, Shure mics

Correct me if I am wrong... but isn't that the Diamond Dust wrap?

OMG. LOVE. I want that someday. I've never seen a sparkle kit ... well.. sparkle like that.

I don't know much about Truth or Crush drums. However, in my opinion...NEW DWs are over-priced. Great drums if you can find them used, in good condition, and fairly priced.

Hi, look what I borrowed yesterday!
The guy who lent it to me, said he liked it, but it wouldn't stay in tune! not like his pearl export... hmmm, food for thought!
I was all miked up, and I really liked the sound of it, ( I used my snare though)

I think drummers who complain of drums not staying in tune may actually be experiencing hearing fatigue. I found that when playing at high volume I'd lose the ability to hear the finer nuances of my kit after just a short period. This became more pronounced when I moved from low end kit to higher end stuff. For a long time I convinced myself that it was the drums.

Anyway, thats a nice kit to borrow!
