Since my recent purchase of a 21" Sabian HH raw bell dry ride, I've been babying it. I've always been extremely fond of ride cymbals. They're just a lot more comfortable to play then hi hats. I love a nice solid ride with lots of stick definition and rebound. What ride do you have?

20" Zildjian A Ping Ride, my main ride cymbal for the last 10 years and an early 80's 22" Sabian (AA?) Heavy Ride cymbal that I used for 20 years before that ...

I'm playing a '70's era Zildjian. I do not know the model, but this thing is a beast. Great definition and the bell is ear shattering. I don't think I will ever change. Well, not until I can afford the Paragons.

I use two, K 20" - nice stick with a better ping than you would expect, not a lot of wash and has a great bell. My newest is a Kerope 20" - great woody stick with a warm smoky wash. Bonus with the Kerope is it's very crashable. It kind of erupts into a shimmery bwooosh. I use it just as much for a crash as I do a ride.

Still being relatively new to this drum thing, I've still not figured out the ride cymbal. It seems like it should be a really important part of the kit, but for me, I'm just not feeling the love for it. Somehow i think maybe the ride is more of a jazz thing. Still, I have a beautiful ride...a Zildjian 20" Constantinople Medium Thin Ride, High.

When I started drumming, I didn't even touch my ride. It was actually a dented planet z crash/ride. Sounded terrible. I think I really got into the ride when I learned Neil Peart's ride pattern. Since then, I don't use my hi hats with an exception of hi hat barks.

I have three that I use, depending on the music. Sometimes, I even change them out between sets. My favorite is a 20" Sabian, but I don't know what series it is. It's very heavy and thick, with a large defined bell. I paid $40 for it used and it looks like a cast B20. It doesn't have much wash, but it does have nice stick definition and volume....and the bell is killer. I use it mostly for the Bluegrass/Folk sets.
The second is a 22" Zildjian Z3. It has a very nice sounding wash with a great bell, but it's a little overpowering at times. I use it mostly for outdoor gigs.
The third is my old 22" Paiste 2002. It has a great classic rock sound. Lots of complex wash, even at lower volume, and a nice balance between stick definition and wash. It works great for Blues/Rock . Probably the most versatile of the three. I would love to have a 20" version of it. I've considered trying my 18" 2002 crash as a low volume ride but haven't tried it yet.

22" Paiste 2oo2 or a 20" K Custom Dry Light. Depends on for whom I'm banging on the drums.

I use a 20" Sabian AA rock ride. Great ping, no wash. I also have a 20" Zildjian A Custom ping ride. Sounds almost identical to the AA.

I used to have a 20" AA El Sabor ride. LOVED that thing. But it just wasn't loud enough for heavy music. The bell was great. I was very washy on the bow and crashable. Just not enough volume for loud heavy metal. I sold it for more than I paid for it.

    My favourite ride is

    1. 20" Stagg DH Jazz Ride (don't know who decided to label this "Jazz", it is too heavy IMO - medium ride seems a more accurate description).

    2. 20" Sabian AAX Stage/21" Stagg DH Exo Dry Ride.

    4. 20" Sabian Pro Ride.

I don't play fast and loud styles of music (I don't yet have the ability) if I did my list would be in a completely different order.

22" Zildjian Z Light Power Ride the original, star hammering for shows and a 21" UFiP Class heavy for recording.

my Z may not be as dry as yours but it's got the stick definition, rebound and volume covered quite well

I have a Sabian 20" HHX Evolution Ride. This one's a lot drier than most others I've heard from this model. Awesome stick definition, beautiful short crash, cutting bell. It sounds excellent with mallets, brushes and rods as well. I will sometimes use my different crashes or 18" china for other ride sounds at lower volumes.
And I use my ride far more than my hi-hats, although I think that's just based on position. I prefer playing without crossing over...I could get a remote hi-hat to solve that but I hear they're a pain to transport and they're pretty expensive too. But I definitely love using both.

Still got my Zildjian 20" A custom ping ride. It's got a nice cut due to the glassy tonality from being a brilliant finish, bright but not too much. I like the sound, but given the chance i'd be curious to see a few traditional finish A series rides, to see what i'm missing.
