    Default Shoulder pain

I'm hurting and I have gigs to play. My right shoulder hurts. I can't lift my arm above my shoulder. I'm thinking it's just from the cold, maybe arthritis or a cramp. I don't know how well I can play, or if I can work the stick shift on the car.

    What to do?

I'm not a doctor nor do I pretend to be(or play one on TV). Could be something called "frozen shoulder". I've had this in both shoulders and it sucks.

First off, go see your doctor. If it is this, you're going to be doing some exercises for awhile. The only way I finally got past it was standing in front of a wall and walking my hands up it. That and doing exercises to strengthen it.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Have you tried putting anything on it.. like icy hot or any of those heat patches?

I had something like this also, turned out it was the long head (tendons) of the bicept where it connects to the shoulder and I couldn't lift my arm very high...went to physio and exercised the arm with one of those thick rubber bands that you tie to a door handle, yes if it persists, like markadiddle said see a doctor, good luck

I gigged through it but the pain increased. I'm taking the afternoon off to put an electric heating pad on the shoulder. Thanks for your insight. We'll see if it responds to heat.

I didn't stress the shoulder. Just gigged and practiced rudiments like I do most days.

Trade off heat and ice. And get your butt to the doc!

If you have inflammation in the joint, heat is not the best thing for it. You should see a Dr to find out what the issue is before you start a treatment that can exacerbate the situation.

this thread should be renamed, what drumming injuries do you have? Me: bad back and cysts in both my wrists

Take care of that shoulder...best thing to do is rest, but we all know it's impossible to not drum

I slept with the electric heating pad on my shoulder last night. The pain is disappearing. I'm good to go for the gig today. Thanks for your help everyone.

My wife is a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils and I use it for all of my aches and pains. It works wonders for my back. If you are interested, let me know and I'll PM you some info. I'm not going to post any links on here.
