Beautiful! I've never been a fan of plastic shells but they sure are pretty.
Just saw these last night. Tama brought back the Mirage acrylic kit in the Silverstar line! Acrylics must be all the rage right now. Everyone is making them...and they all appear to be in the major company's "budget" lines.
These are retailing for $1099. I like them.
What say you, drum chat?

I've always wanted an acrylic kit just because they look so cool. I doubt I'll ever own a set though.
$1099 is "budget"?
Can't say I'm a fan of acrylics-they all look nice with a white background, but add in the things a clear acrylic set allows you to see during a gig, like the drummer(sometimes weird legs, shoes and beat-up jeans or cut-offs), the requisite mics, cables, monitors and all the messy "junk" you find on stage behind the drums and the clear look just suffers...a lot. At least a standard kit hides most of that.
So call me grouchy...

YUS!
By today's standards I think it is. Compared to the Starclassic line. Maybe budget isn't the right word. Mid-level or intermediate is probably more accurate. DW puts their acrylic kit in the Design series I believe and while pricey are a far cry from what a Collectors kit would be price wise.
As a frame of reference....
Pearl's new acrylic kit: $1099 (no snare)
DW: $1499
Crush: $1099 (no snare)
I'd be really interested to know how much difference in sound there is between different manufacturer's acrylic drums. Are there different formulas for the acrylic? $1,099 is certainly one of the lowest prices I have seen for an acrylic kit.
THose looks awesome. With the right lighting, they would look nothing short of unbelievable on stage.

I would put LED stage spots in each shell facing the audience and have them trigger when hit. You'll grab some attention.
I'm torn between the Pearls and TAMA. I think Crush or Pearl makes them with black hardware. Now that is something to behold. Pearl also offers them in different colors.
I was drooling over a basic Pearl shell pack and it was on sale for $899. I didn't cave and now it's back to 999. Waaaahhh

I'm afraid the plastic gets scratched easily.
if I was able to get some they would need to have a color. These look great. Isn't that called "coke/bottle green"?
I think they would like any drums, but they also seem to get cloudy after awhile. Maybe not but a lot of old ones look that way to me for some reason.

The first time I saw acrylic drum shells was in 1970 when a friend of mine had an extra ticket to go see a new band from Houston (we were going to a venue in Ft. Worth).
We got great seats and the drummer was playing FIBES acrylics............little did I know that this new band would release their first album in the next few months............it was called ZZ TOP'S FIRST ALBUM.
The next time I saw these shells was a band playing in Lee Park in Dallas at the usual Saturday free concerts............this band caught my attention because they were doing a great job on a King Crimson cover.............the drummer had a beautiful set of Ludwig Vistas...........two bass drums and the Vista snare as well.
I got to know this same drummer a couple of years later and he was playing in a different band and he now was using (what we then called) Ludwig Deluxe Classic shells, which we all know now as the great 3-ply shells made until the later 70s.
I asked him why he made the change and he told me he loved the Vistas' volume in live gigs but the 3-ply shells sounded better all-around and he was always miked up any way.
I've never owned acrylics but if I had a barn full of kits like Sticks4 does, I'd have to own some............they look great.
Until then, I'll play my old maples............they are awesome.

They sure look good Mark. Don't ever say never. You may get them some day down the road. I finally got my acrylic kit but I waited some 35 years. One day you'll get up and say I'm getting those Tama Mirages. As long as the pocket says OK.
