    Default Today I have to say Good Bye to our Onyx

    Today is a rough day in my family as we have to say good bye to our little girl Onyx.
    We got her 9 years ago as a puppy when Cailyn and I first started dating.
    She's been a part of our lives everyday since and we love her for ever.
    Unfortunately she's losing a battle to heart disease and her liver is 3x the size it should be.
    We really want to be selfish and hold on to her longer but it's not fair to her as we know she's suffering.
    She doesn't eat anymore and she's getting weak.

    Here are photos from this morning. Here appointment is at noon and I'm dreading every minute leading up to her time.

    I'm so sorry to hear this . I have three dogs and I dread the day I have to do this to one of mine . You and your family and Onyx are in my prayers . Such a sweet looking pup . I feel for you .
    My vet is at the end of the street here and she has agreed that when that time comes for us she will come and do it here at the house . I find that so much more comforting for all involved .
    Peace be with you .

    So sorry to hear this Spaz. I went through this with my golden last October, horrible day for sure. The only good part is she will be surrounded by people who love her to make her trip across the bridge easier.

    That's heavy.. Sorry to hear about the coming loss of a family member, never easy and makes a person think things they don't want to. Best wishes through this difficult time.

    MEMORIES
    Virginia Ellis

    Oh, little friend, do you recall,
    When you made this house your home?
    You were just a ball of fluff,
    Not even halfway grown.

    You stumbled when you learned to walk,
    It was hard to steer four legs;
    You learned to sit, and stay, and come,
    And, of course, you learned to beg.

    You loved those walks we used to take,
    You never left my side;
    And if I got my car keys out,
    You were ready for a ride.

    You sensed when I was happy,
    Or was feeling kind of low;
    You'd rub up against my knee,
    You always seemed to know.

    You'd fetch a ball or get a toy,
    Without even being told;
    But, was your face crestfallen,
    If I felt the need to scold.

    You found the outside world exciting,
    Do you remember your first snow?
    You'd not come back inside the house,
    Because you loved it so.

    Going to the vets for shots,
    I guess was your greatest fear;
    You seemed to know each scheduled date,
    Though you went but once a year.

    You were afraid of lightening, too,
    And of booming thunderstorms;
    You'd run and jump upon my bed,
    Where it was safe and warm.

    I never once felt lonely,
    As long as you were here;
    You were at my feet or on my lap,
    You constantly were near.

    Oh, I am going to miss you,
    No question about that;
    But, little one, for your pain to go,
    I had to send you back.

    You're going back to heaven now,
    From whence long ago you came;
    You'll be welcomed back by God, Himself,
    Who knows your doggy-name.

    I think there's Frisbees up in heaven,
    And rubber, squeaky toys;
    And angels who will play with you,
    And little girls and boys.

    But, there won't be any thunderstorms,
    And no vets with shots up there;
    You won't even need a leash,
    You'll run freely in God's air.

    And when my time on earth is done,
    And at heaven's gate I'm near,
    I don't want any harps or horns,
    Just ... happy barks to hear.

    So, see you later, little friend,
    I'm glad you're now pain-free;
    And I'm glad you're sitting next to Jesus,
    Now ... you wait right there for me.

    I can't imagine the pain you are feeling Zack, just know that your puppy will be in my prayers.

    I feel your pain. One of the toughest things that you'll ever do. Take comfort in the fact that you gave her a good life and she gave you great memories. Nothing makes it any easier.

    Zack, I'm so sorry to hear this. You know how I feel about dogs from our conversation a couple of weeks ago, so I know all too well what you and Cailyn are going through.

    Both of you are in my thoughts.

    Sorry for your loss.

    It's tough, I know. Been there myself. When I think of our pets that have left us, I find solace in knowing that all of them enjoyed good, healthy, happy, and love filled lives while they were here with us ...

    I am sorry you have to suffer this loss. To stop the suffering is the most humane gift we can give to our precious fur babies. I am sure you gave Onyx a wonderful life.

    If you haven't read the poem that Mike (Fly By Night) put up, read it. It's beautiful.

    Never easy bud, have had to do it in the past and not looking forward to it in the future but ya gotta try to remember the great life you gave her and all the good times. When they are in pain they do their best to not show it which makes it even harder.

    From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank you all and let you know how much we appreciate all of the kind words, support and comments. It has been one of the hardest weekends emotionally for us. We got her together and lost her together. The house just isn't the same without our little girl running around. Slowly and day by day we'll get stronger and keep pushing forward. She may be gone but she'll never be forgotten.
