An amazing prog rock band. He was suffering from depression and took his life at 71. He will be missed. Rest in peace!
All these departures give you, as I believe one member of Spinal Tap once put it, "Too much xxxxx perspective".
He'll be missed. Will give a listen to Lucky Man in his honor, and the famous synth solo. Rock in Heaven, Keith.
"I consider every drummer that ever played before me an influence, in every way." (Buddy Rich)
"How do you keep 90 people together with one stick? I've got two sticks and i can't keep 5 people together." (Ian Paice)
OMG Never been a huge progger but I always held Emmerson in high esteem. Amazing keyboardist! Depression kills!
all the best...
I too admire Keith Emerson's work. Sad to read that he is gone. RIP
2016 has not been kind to aging musicians thus far.
Emerson was one of the unique classically-trained keyboardists of our generation............an impressive talent and a force of stage presence.
There are uncountable young fans he introduced to classical composition by recording rock versions of Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, Copeland and others.
I read an autobiography a few years ago that was fairly well-written.
When he discussed the subject of drug use, he stated ELP never had those problems unless you include cognac..............he explained that because of his influence, all three members of the band drank way too much cognac for many years.
I regret that ELP was one of the few super-groups that I never got to see perform live.
