As long as the rims aren't bent, the shell isn't warped and the edges are good, I don't think it makes a heck of a lot of difference.
Got my first acoustic kit, a Pearl Decade maple. Decided to change the stock drumheads and started with the snare. I got a bit too excited, and when I put the rim back on, I forgot to place it in the exact position it was before i.e. align the rim with the lugs the way it was originally sitting. I later read that this is the best practice. Is there a way to find the optimal sitting position again?

As mentioned, it doesn’t matter with exception of the snare side where the rim needs to be in proper place to accept the snare wires to connect to throw off and butt plate.
Oh ok, thanks!
Almost every guide I read made it look like it was a big deal so I thought I'd ask.
cheers
