Go with the D series Audix mics. They won't break the bank new and sometimes you can find great deals used.

    ^those look super nice.

I know they are a bit more expensive but I absolutely love the Sennheiser mics.
Small and compact. The stay out of my way especially on my smaller 8" and 10" toms.

They are great mics, pack well for travel, VERY Durable, and stay out of the way. Also they have their own clips which are awesome.

Well in a perfect world, it would be sennheiser. I've been looking at sm57s or some audix. Kind of on a hold right now, my guitar player has been lazy and playing pokemon instead of getting a job and getting his amp fixed. I could run him direct but he can't play to a metronome. I know how to make it work, but I'm not spending any more money on guitar gear I don't need.
