    Default My replacement went nuts!!

You won’t believe this… I’ll try to make a long story short and easily readable. .

Most of you know I quit my last band Roxtar more or less for two reason: 1) I now have a very beautiful daughter and I’m a blessed father and 2) Our singer was worthless, couldn’t do his job and thought drinking was more important than singing.

Well the guitarist Brian and I have become best of friends and we continue to jam together on the side. Well my wife and his now wife also are best of friends and work together now. When I was in the band him and her were just dating, then engaged and this last weekend they got married. Well while I was still in the band we also made all of the plans for his wedding together and one of them was for our band to play for an hour at his reception. I mean how often do you get a chance to play at your own wedding dressed up in your wedding tuxedo?! It was also established that I would be the drummer as I was in the band at the time.

Well fast forward to when I quit, by special request of the bride and groom (especially the bride) they asked that I play for their wedding not the new drummer. The new drummer Pat was not pleased about this but we informed him it’s already planned. Small crazy history on Pat is he’s our former guitarist who quit who came back as my replacement drummer. He also has known Brian for 15 years and is also a groomsman with me in this wedding!

Everyday Pat begged to play a couple of songs, or try to play guitar or sing and we kept telling him know. Comes time for the wedding we are all on stage and I bust out my new Pork Pie kit. I don’t want anyone touching my new baby!! Pat has begged all day to please let him play and I keep telling him it’s not my wedding it’s not my call no. The bride keeps saying no but Brian started thinking about just to make him stop complaining. In the end we all agree NO. This is THEIR special day and their call. Also it would be the very last chance I’ll get to play with Brian in Roxtar. Needless to say Pat got super upset, butt hurt if you may, and started drinking too much.

As we were playing he kept trying to jump on stage and it was obvious he had too much to drink so we kept kicking him off the stage. He started whining and complaining like a child but finally stop jumping up on stage. Finally we finished our set and I was out talking with people and he jumped on stage and sat behind my kit. He than began to play my new drums as he really wanted to hear how they sounded. You better believe me when I tell you my wife jumped up on stage instantly like an attack dog and told him to get off my drumset immediately. Pat LOST HIS MIND!!!

He started yelling at EVERYONE. Started crying (honestly started crying) saying that no one appreciates him, he’s unwanted, they’re trying to get me back in the band.. the list of complaints goes on and on. Then because he’s 34years old going on 5 years old he punched a steel door as security was escorting him outside for causing a scene.

Fast forward again to today… I get a text message from Brian… Pat apparently broke his hand! The guys have a show this Saturday and against Pats will they asked me to cover because they can’t cancel as this is the same venue our singer stood us up at before. Then once that got out that I was asked to cover for their new over dramatic drummer who broke his hand he cried some more on facebook and then QUIT the band.

What is wrong with people!?!? I expected better from a drummer… but then I remembered he’s really a guitarist trying to drum.

1 -- Well, he got that part right.
2 -- He heard them when you played.
    3 -- Brilliant !
4 -- Tell them you want the drummer's portion of the pay PLUS the singer's portion of the pay..............one gig only.
    2 & 3 -- Pat needs a shrink and a butt-kickin'.......................

Wow. It sounds like Pat has some serious emotional issues and needs some help. I think his cheese slid off his cracker. He obviously over-reacted, however, I can understand how his feelings were hurt. I'm sure it was hard for him to watch the band he is (was) currently in, composed of people he considered his friends, playing on stage without him. I definitely DO NOT think YOU did anything wrong....but I find it odd that the bride & groom thought him a good enough friend to be in the wedding party, but wouldn't let him share the stage to some extent when he was sober? I would have expected them to invite him on stage for at least a couple songs and introduce him as the "current" drummer but "sitting in" on guitar.

On a relative note, my middle brother, Brad, got married 2 years ago. My oldest brother, Bruce, and I play together in our band. Brad plays a little guitar and sings, but has never been in a band. He's always said one of his dreams was to play on stage with his brothers. He hired a local band (also friends of ours...and their guitar player plays in our band as well) for his reception. Bruce and I arranged for the band to let us sit in on drums and bass for a few songs so we could invite our brother Brad up to sing a song and fulfill his dream. It was not a big deal to Bruce and I, but it was a huge deal to our brother Brad. Sometimes the things that seem small to us are much bigger to others.

"Too many crappy used drum stuff to list"

    Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!

"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham

If someone like that touched my drums, they would have to call security on me!

The best part if your wife jumping on stage!!

Sometimes my gf pushes me to get behind someone's kit, I tell her firstly that's not really kosher, second, I'm not good enough.

The difference here is that she doesn't play an instrument. Alcohol or not, musicians know better...
