    Default Cymbal layout

Hey everyone, just wondering how you setup your cymbals and where you place them, I know the ride goes on the right and the crash on the left, but what about splashes and extra cymbals, I tried to upload a pic of my setup but I can't figure how to do so

I'll upload a pic tomorrow but I currently have an 8" and 10" splash above the hihats, 14" crash on the left, 21" ride above the kick, 16" crash on the right, 16" China on the right.

I like two crashes in front of me but a hair off to the left and right.
My china always to my direct right.
My splash varies but usually off to the side.

same thing here... two in front, china on my right, but splash off on my left

Cymbal set up depends on your configuration etc and what is comfortable to you. I do not have splashes
My set is 2 up 1 down
I have a 14 hhts on the left of my snare,
17 crash between hhts and rack tom
18 crash on the right of my other rack tom
21 ride beside my 18 but lowered to just about my floor tom.

This was my set up for a long time, still is. I usually had a large Zil Bel over by the ride as well.

There's no right or wrong way to set up your cymbals. Whatever works for you is what's best.

Also, I don't think you can upload pictures until you hit a certain number of posts.

Here's a pic of mine, FWIW:

Yeah, except you'd have 16 more drums.

@Spaz, the first kit (porkpie?) is a work of art and should be in a museum

Def goes with what works, but since we are all basically the same, what works for others usually will work for you, and what you've seen here (most clearly in Marko's pic) is spot on.

I like having a splash at my 12 o'clock, which is partially because I have it clamped to the right side crash...your drum set up will determine a bit how you have your cymbals...maybe put your kit description in your signature so we know what you're dealing with
    Yamaha DTX 500 module
Anatolian Kappadokia 14" Rock High Hats
    Sabian El Sabor 20" Ride
    Zildjian A 18" Crash Ride
    Istanbul Agop 16" Trash Hit
    1950's Zildjian 14" Splash/light crash
    Istanbul 8" Splash (pre 1997)
    Mapex Black Panther Steel Piccolo

The only constant things with my cymbal set-up are that my ride (or rides) are on the right side and low, and I want a crash source on the left and right side of my setup. Other than that, it changes. There are no rules, if you like your ride cymbal above the hi-hats, put it there. I have a friend who has his ride cymbal super high in the air and it works for him. Just experiment.

I'm a lefty, so everything is opposite for me. But pretty much the same idea. I move the splashes and china/effects cymbals around from time to time, but the hats, ride and crashes never move.

Yeah, It's just the angle. My leg does come close, but I have enough room. The fan sits at about knee level.

As far a cymbal layout goes, I would just set them out to match my style of play and what just seems natural to reach to strike. A ride, for instance, should be somewhere not requiring extra reach because you usually play lengthy patterns on it. Crashes a little more forgiving as they mostly take single strikes. Cymbals used most should be closer and those used the least can be farther...good rule of thumb.

    all the best...

I place my ride low enough to be comfortable, a crash on each side, and a small crash in the middle.

    I HATE brilliant finished cymbals.

Not like if you own them I hate them, but I hate owning them myself because I hate all the finger prints and cleaning.. and if you don't clean them they look like crap along the edges in no time flat.
