Default The Last Waltz tribute concert (now with video!) . Anybody ?

Last night here in town a few of the local celebrity musicians got together and had a tribute concert of the "Last Waltz" . The guy I play for , George Howard , was asked to be on the show along with the band . So we wound up doing two songs . "Mannish Boy" and "Caldonia" . It was at the historic Fox Theater here in town . Back stage they had a laptop and they had Googled the event and it turned out that there were many others with the same idea and there were tribute concerts like ours all over the country !

So I was wondering if anybody else here participated in one , or heard about one going on in your town ?
This was great fun . The musicianship was top notch . And it was a sold out house !

Frankly I was surprised at the turn out here . There had been 500 tickets sold before the concert and there was a line down the block . People were turned away ! And the audience was great . Just look at the video I posted . The encore song was Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" and the whole place was singing along . That was awesome .
Well...seems like I was the only one then .

I would love it, but I live close enough to Nashville that it's mostly about Country music here.

There is an all-star national tour scheduled for early next year. Stops here in Albany in February.

    ------------------

“The Last Waltz 40 Tour” captures the excitement from Blackbird Present’s two-night, sold-out concert event “Last Waltz New Orleans” which took place during Jazz Fest 2016 at the historic Saenger Theatre. Heralded as one of New Orleans best events during Jazz Fest, the epic event paid tribute to The Band’s milestone final concert with unprecedented performances and an extraordinary lineup of artists. “The last 30 minutes of The Last Waltz @SaengerNOLA was best thing I’ve heard @jazzfest” said Keith Spera, music critic, The New Orleans Advocate.

Now Blackbird Present’s “The Last Waltz 40 Tour: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz” will showcase a number of these artists across multiple US cities led by musical director Warren Haynes and Don Was, with Michael McDonald, Jamey Johnson, John Medeski, and Terence Higgins, along with the original horn arrangements of Allen Toussaint.

In addition to the stellar lineup, “The Last Waltz 40 Tour: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz” will surprise fans with some very special guests at numerous stops throughout the tour.
