Default A christmas Trip to the Memphis Drum Shop

Still an incredibly remarkable shop for drummers.
No guitars, keyboards or PAs............just everything associated with drums and drummers.

My daughter and her boyfriend were in town for a Christmas visit and for one of the gifts, we took them on a Memphis trip.
Graceland, Beale Street, Memphis Zoo, and, of course, The Memphis Drum Shop.

Oddly, one of the coolest rooms in the shop (other than the vintage room) is the restroom..............the walls are covered with autographed posters of World Famous drummers that have visited the store............in addition, a large double-braced tom stand holds the TP and the paper towels.

The cymbal room is one of the best cymbal collections you will ever see............and then the sales clerk tells me the warehouse has 10 times the cymbals, "these are just display"...............and also........a gong vault.

The front room displays many of the newest sets from DW, Ludwig, Pearl, Sonor and Gretsch..............the back rooms have more kits as well as all the accessories and hardware exhibits.

If you are ever in the area, do not pass this up.
I've been there numerous times and it is still so very impressive.

I've been wanting to go to that shop for a long time. I'm just afraid of what I will walk out of there with. That said, when I have some money burning a hole in my pocket, and it's time to get another snare, I know where I'm heading.

I would love to check that place out one day. We took our son to Memphis about 10 years ago but didn't know about the drum shop back then. We got to check out the other stuff including the Fender Guitar Museum which I thought was pretty cool.

I need to put that shop on my bucket list ...

From my understanding Chris Layton picked up his first pair of Vater drumsticks in this shop. He is now a Vater endorsed artist.

I'm 2 hours away from Memphis. I was just thinking today that I need to make a trip!

Amazing number of really cool kits. Is everything for sale or is the vintage room just a "museum" of drums?
    Proudly playing:
    Doc Sweeney Drums
    A bunch of snares
    A bunch of cymbals

    Off-Set double pedals

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!

Nothing for sale in the vintage room.
The shop-owner is a fan, a drummer, and a collector.

That cymbal room is remarkable...............so many quality choices and the clerk will personally help you with your process, even if it means hitting options for an hour.

He also told me that their warehouse has about ten times the number of cymbals over the cymbal room.

I like Rendevouz. It's especially convenient if you're staying at the Peabody Hotel. Corky's and Jim n Nicks are good as well.

Thanks pocket and Ricardo. I'm seriously planning a Blues and BBQ tour perhaps for this fall. Likely stop will include, KC, Memphis, St. Louis, and New Orleans. Kinda like down the Mississippi sort of thing.

Does Ben White actually work around the shop, or is he just the video guy? I find myself watching just for his playing and not the actual products he's trying to sell.

If you have the time, Helena Arkansas is where the King Biscuit Blues Festival is held..............there is a very cool Delta Museum there.

Memphis is a great drum shop..............as is Fork's Drum Closet in Nashville.
Who woulda thunk ? Both in Tennesee ?
