My girlfriend found this snare at a pawn shop. 5.5 x 14 Yamaha Concert copper MIJ snare. $140 out the door. Been wanting this size for awhile now. Can't wait to try it out. IMG_3115.jpg IMG_3118.jpg

Beautiful snare! Always loved those lugs. Are you going to leave those concert wires on?

Mike, I'm going to try them but will probably go to a 20 strand Pure Sound. It has an Evans Genera Dry on it now but I'm pretty sure I'm going to change that too. I like the warmth copper gives but want it to sound lively at the same time.

Ok, I get that the copper is like a wrap, bearing edges are still wood, but why the central seam? Does the copper need that to be more rigid ( and so the wood needs to be routed to accommodate the copper)?

Exactly what I thought. It really does look like there's a wood shell on the inside. Pretty cool

Played the copper at practice tonight. Sounds great. Very dry sound plus it has an Evans dry level 360 on it. Still has the original wires too but may change them later on and try a different batter later on too but for now will leave it as is. We're playing a double on St. Patrick's Day once outside and then later that evening inside and will use it inside for sure. May use the brass for the outside. Last time we were out there it sounded pretty good with the brass

Hey Spaz I'm happy I got it I mean given the price it was kind of a no brainer but I never really considered getting one before. It's great to have sound options.

Love that snare slinky! I'm sure you're well aware of this but it's worth bringing up. I once played in a band with a 7 piece horn section and when we played doubles (outdoor to indoor) within the same gig, the horn players had a heck of a time keeping their brass instruments acclimated to the change in temperture. In my opinion, I would take the snare out of its case let it "breathe" before you do the final tweek on the tuning. Good luck in March. I wish I could drop by and check you guys out!

I'm really liking this drum but I want to try a different set up on it. I want to keep it dry but liven it up a bit too if that makes sense. It still has the 15'' 16 strand guitar string wires on it which really dries it up plus it has the Evans dry batter on top. Thinking about going to an Aquarian Response 2 batter leaving the reso alone and going to a 20 strand pure sound. The nice thing about this drum, even though it's called a concert snare it's equipped with a regular throw off.

PASTOR BOB WAS HERE????? Did anybody see him, get a picture, anything?

I know the sound of snare drums will get to him even if nobody is playing 1. Just the mere mention of a snare and he becomes like Ethan Hunt, here and gone.
