    I...tend to hold my breath during tough drum fills. This is probably not a good thing because I think it makes me also play too stiffly. But no, no grunting.

    I was a chronic grunter, when it was brought to my attention it took me a couple years to break the habit. Now I do not grunt and I play 100% more relaxed. The two seem to go hand in hand.

    No grunting here, because I wear the dreaded headset microphone. I sing backing harmonies while I play drums for the pastors I play with, and I sing backing harmony with the church's praise band (although I don't play drums with them). I actually like singing the harmony because I really keeps me attached to the song, and more importantly, the feel of the song.

    Other than relaxing more, did you do anything else to alleviate the problem?
