I was thinking the other day that I really am particular when it comes to the feel of the practice pad I use. Are you guys as well?

I prefer hard to soft, but I have practiced on a pillow in the past. Years ago, I had a Remo drum pad, but I just never quite liked the feel - too soft - so I went with a Vater practice pad. I believe that the Vater pad was considered soft, but to me the feel is harder than what I had used in the past.

I've never used a practice pad. Probably why I'm not very good! haha. I have one of those old school grey plastic with the white "head"...I think they are old Remos. But I almost never use it.

As careful as I am there's been several incidents where the trailer has shifted and a drum fell once door was opened.
    Or someone helping dropped one..
Or when we are using the dolley one has fallen...

Your heart stops but with the hard case I know my drums are safe!
With a soft case only assurance I have is I know i'll find all the broken pieces inside hahahahaha

I voted for the hard pad. I don't want too much bounce. Back in the day, I used a thick phonebook but I don't think the phone company prints those anymore.

I just use my mouse pad. Feels better than some cheap practice pads I've used in the past.

I had one of those back in middle school. Just the pad. I remember being so excited just having a pair of drumsticks and a pad. Pretty funny to think I don't even use one anymore.

I had one made by Ludwig. It had a suction cup on the backside so it wouldn't flop around.

Those were the aluminum with the rubber insert.
My fave was the Ludwig with a drum head over a rubber pad that used lug rods to tighten the head.

I used many different types growing up but finally settled in on the 'Real Feel' practice pad. It just seemed to have the right balance between hard and soft.

I recommend a hard case for storing pork. You don't want it to spoil.
