I recently started learning the porcaro, bonham and purdie shuffles. Jeff was such a talented guy.
This guy is/ was a great drummer with a wonderful sense of groove. He never believed in doing drum solo's and had some cool shuffles.
There are many drummers today with huge sets and are very good, dont get me wrong. However, i wont mention names, but many are missing that grove that guys like porcaro or bonham had.
Jeff was the best overall session drummer ever. He'd worked with the best and created some of the best music to date.
He was my mentor and driving force that opened my eyes and ears to what a drummer can be.
May he R.I.P. and we lost him way too soon. I think his birthday was in April, too.
He is greatly missed by the musical community even to this day and far beyond.

One of my favorites
Jeff Porcaro was my motivation to want to play drums this late in my life. As I learned more about him, and his philosophy about drumming, the more I could relate to him. I loved that when he started Toto, that the band did not want to be committed to a particular style of music...embrace everything. That he didn't take credit for how he played, rather, he gave credit to those monster players who had come before, and that he only combined things in perhaps a slightly different way...and was so self-effacing about it. That he eschewed drum solos because he felt they did not contribute to the tunes. And the fact that he simply a fantastic drummer, so young when he passed, but respected by so many, as a musician...and as a person.
