I'll have to look into it when I go into work next.
In my search for a kit upgrade, especially to replace my Yamaha Tour Customs(Indonesian-made maple) brown-burst(?), I've gone back to new Yamaha choices in the affordable range of $1500.
But they're all gone!
Seems Yamaha has decided to go with really expensive, dark finished sets. Whaaaat?

There is a Yamaha Drums page on Facebook . I've seen some pretty awesome finishes and set ups on there . And they belong to regular people like you and me not from endorsers .
Maybe you should broaden your search ?
I'm going to be going out on the road again (much to my dismay) and I was shown a deep red semi sparkly finish on a set of Birch Custom Absolutes that I'm contemplating on getting for this tour . The finish does not show up on their website or catalogues . But is available from this dealer here in town , along with some others I was shown . Maybe if you look for a shop that sells Yamaha , that's NOT Guitar Center , and talk to the head guy there he might show you the "magic" book ? I'm going out with a Mexican artist who's got a Grammy and is very popular but has been away from the spotlight for a few years now . So his return to the spotlight has sparked a lot of interest from touring companies and some musical instrument manufacturers . So maybe that's why I've been shown the "magic" book of finishes . But it's out there and if you're going to spend money I'm sure they would show it to you .
Just some FYI ....
jedi, those birch custom absolutes aren't even on their web page! So maybe you mean their web page is not up-to-date? That could be...sure puts a crimp in on-line shopping!

I think you are correct . I know they are pushing the Hybrid Maples . At least when I brought it up the guy at the store kept trying to steer me to those . I asked just on a whym as I will be taking my piano black BCA's anyway if the deal falls through . But once I told him my plans he got out the "axillary" pages and showed me what other finishes were available .
Yamaha is a bit strange as you and I are starting to find out .
I asked about getting a 16" floor tom (in the piano black) to go with my kit and the price from them was more than what a complete Stage Custom kit with hardware goes for ! Maybe once the tour company gets involved they will reach out to Yamaha for me and I can AT LEAST get the floor tom at a very discounted , if not free , price .
