The current line-up of my band does three of the songs on your (cool) list.
While I don't like to evaluate other peoples' choices I see what you mean about a few.................I would have trouble with SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL and AMERICAN BAND.
This is because I was a sound company roadie and worked a tour with Grand Funk (among many other bands) in 1973.
Schacher was to himself and reserved/quiet...............Farner was fun and friendly.................Brewer was a total "I'm a star" jerk.

Lot of songs on there that we played over the years.

I know what it feels like when a song is coming up that you hate playing. I wanted to say "could I be excused, I have to go to the potty", but you have to play them like you're playing your favorite song. I would, sometimes if it were a easy song to play, look at the ladies on the dance floor and try to imagine them in bikini's. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it worked too well.

    C'est la vie en rose!!!

Are you ready is the only one of the GFR tunes I really enjoy playing but the 2 guitar players really like American band and people always want to hear s.k.o.w. so thats that.

Thanks Rick I will try that tonight but I have a feeling you doing at 20/30 something with a younger crowd may be a different experience than the one I will have at an American Legion : )

I understand as well. We do several of those same songs in my band. I DETEST playing "some kind of wonderful", LOL. The problem is that the crowd always likes it. It gets depressing when bar crowds always want to hear the same old cover band songs.

    Play the SONG......not the DRUMS!!!

"I think that feeling is a lot more important than technique. It's all very well doing a triple paradiddle - but who's going to know you've done it? If you play technically you sound like everybody else. It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham

It was an awesome gig, Dance floor was packed all night and everyone had a great time. 1st time we did Lime and coconut and it went over very well. They gave us another $100 which made it $500 and asked us back for sept. 1st or the 8th. I even ran into an old Navy buddy I have not seen in 20 years. Turns out we have lived within 20 miles of each other for the last 15 years...LOL..My New Sonor Birch essential force was a big hit with the rest of the band, the toms were very lively with a quick decay you can only get from birch. I was hesitant on bringing the stock snare and brought my Pork Pie BOB as a back up but never even thought about it once we got going as the birch snare was getting all kinds of compliments.

Looks like a pretty typical "cover band, Animal Club band, classic rock band with some really bad (Mustang Sally) songs thrown in there" set list. Some good, some bad. As long as you're having fun and the folks you're playing to dig 'em.................what's not to like?

MDK sounds like you had a pretty successful evening. You had everyone dancing and that is a good sign. Good luck on your next gig there.
