I still can't find them on the internet, but I believe they're made by Remo, the foam rings that go underneath the batter. When I first went into this teachers studio he had them on all his toms and for some reason I loved the sound of them.
Last night I went to GC and asked my buddy about them and he says they're a lame purchase. How do these things sound live?

More than likely.........lame. This is a case where the GC guy is right.

The more you dampen your drums, the less they are going to project, and therefore the less they are going to be heard in a live situation. In a studio..... you might want that dampened down sound. But not live. Its going to sound like cardboard ten feet away. If you want to be heard, and want to sound good, theres no gadget produced that will take the place of good head selection and learning to properly tune your drums.

    I mostly agree with Ploughman.

I was big on using 1" rings cut out of old drumheads, fastened with a small piece of tape to the top head. For me, they cut just enough of the overtone without squelching the fundamental.
No, I still won't play Wipe Out.
