HEY!! welcome to the forum...you came to the right place!!
im biased since i prefer pearl over tama...but one of my buds uses a tama superstar as apposed to my pearl kit ( its not ELX tho) i find the tama is a very nice kit for the cash it all come down to shell materials and the sound you want...the the thinner the shell,the more over-tones and the longer the note rings
maple is a very loud wood with all around good highs mids and lows
where as brich is loud and pirceing ive heard it decsribed as bouncy to...
where as mohanany ( which is what i think the superstar is made outof)...is really low end with nice mids and highs
BTW if any of this is wrong feel; free to correct me cause i leared thtis a long time ago and then knda forgot about it
