Go down to GC and play on as much as you can. That would be my advice.

Whew, tough question. I'd need a LOT more info. Such as music style, how high/low you sit, budget, brand preference, etc., etc...
If all you need is a good all-around (industry standard) for a good price, get a used Ludwig Superphonic.
- 1966 4-piece Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl
- 2000 8-piece DW Collector's Grey Swirl
- 2002 8-piece Pearl Masterworks GB Packer Gold
- 2008 8-piece Tama B&B Lava Glass Glitter
- Paiste Signature 12, 14, 14, 16, 16, 17, 18, 18, 20, 20, 22
- Paiste Formula 602 14, 14, 16, 18, 20
really depends on what sound your after
if i had a choice i would probably get one of the cheaper mapex black panthers
OK thanks guys I think I got an idea for now :D
One more thing: When should I replace my heads?
Shooterman2, this may seem like I'm dodging the question, but it really depends on how much you play, and how hard you hit. If you're playing, and practicing regularly, and you are not an especially hard hitter, the recommendation is generally to replace the batter head every 3-6 months, but that's just a general guideline. The resonant head should be replaced every 2nd or 3rd time you replace the batter head.
Quoting gonefishin: Just have some bacon with ya when you go pick her up..........youre an instant chick magnet.

if you want a really nice sound idk how hard these are to get a hold of but my drum teacher has a carbon fiber snare. its got one of the sickest pops ive ever heard. but like bassistlearningdrums said, GC has a lot of options to play on just go and test things out and see how they feel and what u like
Alright thanks, I'll keep the carbon fiber snare in mind, seems cool.
Thanks guys :D (probably will replace my heads soon)
