Yeah i know that putting a hole in your bass drum is for miccing your kit for recording purposes..
But does it make it louder?
Also, what do you all use to dampen the bass? I just have a pillow and towel and i think its a bit OTT.
    its too quiet.
And i wanna do it anyway it looks awesome haha.
    any advice on how?

wow.. why do i always ask so much in my threads? xP

I just took a coffie cup (might have been a very small dish?) and a sheetrock knife and cut it out. It's pretty easy. Doesn't make it any louder, unless you've got a mic stuck in there, of course.

I took an audio CD, traced around it with a new bladed box knife and in about 15 seconds had a perfectly usable ported head.

A hole boosts your click and attack sound over the resonance, but it doesn't make your kick louder. I would have left my 22" reso head hole-less, but alas, I had to mike it. No way I'm cutting a hole in my 18" kick though!
And the trees are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw. . .

I just purchased a Holz kit for my head. You just glue the ring on the head where you want it with the provided double sided tape and cut out the inner diameter of the ring and apply the backing ring and your done. The good thing about it is it looks nice and professional and the ring protects the head from tearing if you bump the inner edges of the hole with a microphone.

That's what I use. They only cost a couple bucks, and believe me if you ever saw me with an exacto knife in my hand you would insist I use a template.

Why do psychics have to ask you your name? And how come you never heard of a psychic winning the lottery?
