    Hi,
I have them tuned fairly high, and will use the stock heads until I can afford a set of pin stripes, I LOVE the notes I am getting from through the toms from 10-12-14-16! never really managed to get such a clear difference before.
I am playing the kit 'out' in a few venues next month, so I am looking forward to hearing it in a massive space!

Cool. Good luck on the gigs! It will be fun to hear them in a live setting.

Hopefully, if there is a soundcheck or some other opportunity, you can get someone to play them a bit so you can go out front to hear them. That is always an interesting experience. There often can be a big difference in the sound in how we hear it, behind the kit, as opposed to how folks hear it out front.

I was researching kits and happened across them. It came down to a Gretsch Marquee or the Armory. The Marquee were more expensive but I wanted some Mapex hardware also so ended up paying the same amount. The Armory kit was $900 plus $400 for the hardware kit (2 boom stands, snare stand, kick pedal, hi hat stand). Love the hardware...beefy stuff. Bought it thru Sam Ash music. Soon as Im allowed to post pics I will...and yes hybrid birch/maple/birch.

Still using my Gretsch steel snare, I just prefer the sound for what I am playing at the moment.

Picked up a new Armory in Photon Blue today, along with an Exterminator snare (they said I could take my pick of any Armory snare, so went for the 14x6.5 Birch/Walnut model).
The sizes are 22x18, 16x14, 14x12, 12x8, 10x7. Looks great, sounds great, and the snare is a cracker. Stock heads are still on, so I'll give them a fair go before swapping them out.

wow, Mapex does it again!! What a great looking finish, congrats Dodeska. Tom mounts are better than most other brands and you get to choose among an array of different snares. No other manuf. comes close to Maplex's deals.

Thanks guys. I'm very pleased with them.
I've not had a virgin kick before, so It's taking some adjusting to get the toms placed right, but I'll get there! I'll be taking the snare to band practice in a few hours, so I'll get to hear how it sounds when played in anger!

Very awesome, D. Love the color.

I agree with using the stock heads for a while. Gives you a benchmark for later comparison!

    Well done!

They were obviously tuned up in the shop, so sound pretty good. My feeble tuning skills would probably make them sound worse despite better heads!

Good luck with the virgin kick, I tried and tried with my new Sonor's to get them positioned off of cymbals stands but I never got it in a good position so I eventually had the BD drilled and a rack tom installed. I think the only way I could make a Virgin work is to Have a BD like the Saturn or use only 1 rack tom and 2 down.

I'm sure I will. I saw a kit like yours in the shop & they looked really nice close up, very like the ltd edition Raven kit they brought out a few years ago. I was almost swayed by them!

    Great kit, Bridie

Here's a couple of shots of me on the Saturns at a 21st party last week. This was the first time I played on 1 up, 2 down configuration after I scored a 16" x 14" floor tom off Ebay. OK, it's in Galaxy fade whereas the rest of the kit is Galaxy burst, but even the rest of the band didn't notice! Great comments on the kit sound from the crowd

Awesome kit Dodeska, always liked blue sparkle fades. I sorta like the mounts too, not messy like the traditional kind where it hangs and stresses the tension rods. The rod going through the bottom of the lug does raise curiosity, but not to the point where I wouldn't buy them if I was in the market for a new set.
