Ya - we even have M. Shawn "Clown" Crahan of Slipknot
    playing Gretsch drums - now that's just .... &

I remember a comment by a middle-aged clerk in a local drum store when I was asking about Gretsch drums just before I bought my Renowns. He said "Gretsch - ya wanta play country music do ya." Now there's nothing wrong with well played country music, but his tone was in the vain of "Gretsch drums arn't where it's at now-a-days." He couldn't have been more wrong. They're played in bands of every style today - country, rock, jazz, latin, classical and you name it.

Ya - CycleDude - you nailed it they're "just wicked."

Les, those Purewoods are beautiful. Since you traded in the Cats, does that mean they are at one of the Milwaukee area stores for cheap ? ;-)

Just manted to stop in to say that my request for a quote on a Renown Bubinga kit was pointless. They sold out of the limited edition kits last year in the fall. Just haven't removed them from the web site yet.
Gonna keep their mahogony shells in mind still.
    Catalina Club Rock?
    Any experience to offer?
Oh, come to think of it, nevermind. I'm sure it's covered somewhere back in this thread.
    Onward...

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!

Yeah and tell it to Bill Stewart, too. The man is a super drummer and his Gretsch drums are fantastic sounding. In fact, next time he comes back home to Des moines, I'll tell him.
There's a lot to be said for Time Honored tradition and value.

Yep, but then it's a small price to pay for such awesome drums. I thought long and hard this past summer when the owner of a local music store offered to make me a great deal on a 7 piece studio M Birch kit in the Honey Amber finish. All I needed to do was trade in the Catalinas, but in the end, I just couldn't do it!

A straight up trade would be doable in like finishes.

I'd like to lay into a birch kit to experience the difference in attack and tone from maple.

OMG! I'm turning into BISH! LOL!

Bingo. Can you think of any better way to get the experience. I didn't have any other options that I could come up with.

Enjoy the ride...hmm and the kick and the snare and the.....

I'm a recent convert to Gretsch with a new Catalina Maple kit in Red. It was a 21 year wait for me, but both me and my band are blown away at how good they sound.

Why did I wait so long? Oh well, I'm in drum heaven now.

A professional practices until they can't get it wrong.
(That would make me an amateur.)
