I also found a set of Paiste PST 3's minus the china, for the same price. Opinions please.
Are these good cymbals. A friend of mine has a Meinl crash ride and I like it alot and he plays hard. I don't play that hard and I'm just looking for a decent set of cymbals for my practice kit. Found a set with 14" hats, 16" med crash, 20" med ride and a filter china for $219.00 brand new. Is it worth it or would I be better off just buying a good set of hats.
I also found a set of Paiste PST 3's minus the china, for the same price. Opinions please.
PST3's are brass. Pass on those. Not sure on the Meinls.

i would go with the MCS but another cheap but bronze cymbal is the paiste 201 series

you'd have to have a listen between the cymbals and choose your favourite. but within those two options you gave i'd with no doubt go for the meinls since they're made out of bronze which proper cymbals are made of and they're meinls! :D the pst3's are made out of brass which only really cheap and nasty cymbals are made of. they won't sound as good and will definitely not last! also look into wuhan(don't listen to the stigma that they're crap) and istanbul mehmets. good luck.
I just ordered the Same pack, pluse I got a 16" medium crash, and a 17" medium crash PST-5. I also just got the Meinl Clasics pack, I like it so far just with a quick stick test, havent played them on the kit yet, i still have to get it together.

I own PST 3's and they are really bad, I don't know anything about meinl, just check what they're made out of.

This is so helpful to me too!
I've been playing on budget end cymbals and thanks to this thread upgraded to MCS, and they're SO much better.
you're welcome. hopefully we made you into a meinl fan! ;D
Meinl is making some great stuff including their entry level MCS!
Good choice! I play pro level Zildjian and Sabians..and If I had to start over right now, I would choose the Meinl MCS over Zildjian ZBT or Sabian B8 in a New York minute!
Welcome to DrumChat MurderDollMK2! -Les
paiste alphas are pretty good there a step up from the pst series or get a bunch of used 2002 cymbals

Well I can justify for Meinl, but not for the MCS series. Ask Pat. I am pretty sure he has the MCS Series (forum name is jhmeg2). I for one love the Byzance series. They sound fantastic! The new Soundcaster Fusions (K Hybrid-esque cymbals) are also amazing!

Im a Paiste guy, But between pst's and mcs's I'd recommend the Meinl's!! Paiste Alphas IMO are amazing cymbals for the price, but would still run you about double the price of the mcs's. I'd recommend going to the store and playing everything in your price range and pick what you like the best

TD, Meinl's MCS series is a B8 bronze, so it's a lower end bronze, but definitely a cut above the usual beginner cymbals. It will still be a stamped cymbal, though, so I would play it see how it sounds to you. I suppose the choice between the Meinl cymbals and a better quality hi-hat pair depends entirely on what kind of sound you can deal with on the practice kit.
