Mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly,he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them in the jar.He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

Next the professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "Yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the space between the sand.

    The students laughed.

"Now",said the professor,as the laughter subsided,"I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--God,family,children,health,friends and favorite passions,--things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full."

"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house and car."

"The sand is everything else,--the small stuff."

"If you put the sand in the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes with life.If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you."

"So,...Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.Play with your children.Take time to get medical check ups.Take your partner out to dinner.Play another 18."

"There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.Take care of the golf balls first,--the things that really matter.Set your priorities.the rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled."Im glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, theres always room for a couple cups of coffee with a friend."

Please share this with someone you care about.I just did.

On Thursday managed to score a great second hand deal on a Pro Percussion set in great nick with some Paiste 302 and PST5 cymbals for one of my newer girl students. Came with a stool, extra hardware and clamps, stick bag and sticks, cowbell, music stand and double pedal. We picked it up for Au $500, then spent a bit of time on Friday tuning it up for her. They wanted to pay me for driving her Dad there and for tuning it, I told them "Don't be silly, it's my pleasure". But they kept insisting on it until I finally gave in. She now thinks I'm the best teacher in the world and so do her folks.

And if I may add to that... be sure that you continually work on yourself... your inner peace, contentment... and constantly seek wisdom. Find happiness within you, because if your significant other ever leaves you or dies, you need to still be OK. Life must go on. Regardless, a relationship will usually never last if you are not OK within yourself. You must be mature, wise, self-sufficient and strong. Only then will life be in perfect balance.

The old Dale Carnegie book "How to Make Friends.." features a gem:

    (paraphrasing)
If a problem is heavy on your mind today, write it down on a piece of paper, fold that, and put it in a seldom-used drawer.

Six months from now, retrieve the note and read it.
In most cases, what was a major problem then is no longer the burden it once was, and often had been long forgotten!

Personal experience says that it does work.
Even major burdens often "evolve" to a point where they can be made manageable.

I have a couple of Deepak Chopra's books, and I check them out once in a while, like on a long plane ride, or vacation.

Recently I found this two words of wisdom in them (pardon my approximate rendition):

When visiting someone, always bring something, it be ever so little. The gesture seems to bring good things to the giver, and recipient.

When meeting someone, always try to, silently, wish him or her wellness and good heath.

Surprisingly, we sort of do both, in this forum format of ours, which I find very cool and uplifting...!

My aunt has been working literally 18 hours a day. She works for the world food programme. And she is constantly working around the clock to help those in need, although she does not usually deal with them directly. Kudos to everyone working for the UN, they help make the world a better place

Damn, there is just so much I can talk about on this topic. I could easily write 12 pages, and I am not even exaggerating, I swear! It would evolve into philosophical/theist sort of thing. Anyway, the main point of it all, is that no matter how much evil there is in the world, always remember that humans are capable of good.
