Can anyone recommend a good metronome? There seems to be a lot to choose from.

Metrophones are great for practicing with a click and also protecting your ears.

For pad practicing, I've used a Boss Dr. Beat for years. I've got an old analog model that's ...STILL GOING.

There's a lot of different ones out there.

Basically you have starting choices, Analog or Digital, both have their benefits too.

    Analog doesn't require batteries.
Digital can be plugged into headphones and is more accurate than an Analog metronome.

Not sure whether you can do this on Analogs, but the digital one I have allows you to subdivide the tempo into 8ths, triplets, 16ths etc. and various time signatures up to 7/4.

The downside to a digital metronome is they aren't very loud, and playing over the top of them becomes very easy. Unless you have it going into headphones.

Another thing to consider is how fast the tempo actually goes to. Most metronomes I've seen only go to 208 bpm, so if you're planning on playing black metal or grindcore, you may need to search for a faster metronome.

    Hope this helps a bit,
