They make incredible snares that's for sure. I love my Acrolite and have never heard anything bad about Black Beauties. And of course, if they are good enough for Bonham...

I have some Ludwig / WFL snares.
I have an upcoming Ludwig project. I have a 16" 70s floor tom. A 26 x 14 70s bass drum. I am going to ad a 12 & 13 toms and refinish all to match. I am thinking Champagne Sparkle |

Same here, simple, sturdy, well-made and adjustable!!!!!!!!!! Any one ever heard of the SonicKIng snare?? Was limited production, very much like the Supra, but only as a "custom".

Ludwig metal snares are the best on the market! I also like the 3 ply vintage shells.

high end ludwig is great. rockers and the lower end line accent...not so good IMO. the higher end accents are pretty nice. i love my 70s supra. i played an 8x14 maple snare awhile back. it sounded killer.

Yes...it is the Pat. pending Swiv-O-Matic (Rogers). I had it installed in 1965 and it is still supporting the 9 x 13 tom. Will having it discount the collectibility of my set? I'm certain that it will. However, I bought the set to play and had no thought about having it for as long as I have. As for why, the Ludwig hardware was not very good, in my opinion. The rail consolette was okay but I was never able to tighten it sufficiently to support the weight of the tom. The Ludwig bass mounted cymbal holder wasn't much better either. I used a cymbal stand for the ride for many years. It's probably in the last 10 to 12 years that I replaced the original with a newer model by Ludwig...it is so much better. I have been chastised by many...that's okay. I'm the one who plays the drums.

From what I have read this was a very common practice back them.
The Rogers Swivelmatic was state of the are(as were most rogers inventions) in its day. I am about to restore a Rogers Holiday kit, I will be using the stock Swivelmatic. Still going strong 40+ years later. |
