Default Roland Pd-5/8

Hey, can I use a Roland pd-5 pad for a kick pad? I'm almost done putting together a practice e-kit on the cheap, and I already have my old Alesis D4 brain, and 2 pd-8 pads. I was thinking of using one Pd-8 pad for my snare, the other for my hi hat, and 1 pd-5 for a ride/crash cym, and another pd-5 for a kick. I have a home made rack to hold it all together. Again, this is for really basic band "head-phone style" rehearsing. Thoughts?? Any better/cheaper options?
