What did everyone think of those painted cymbals?
Overall, opinions on the halftime show?

The painted cymbals were interesting but not for me. I would like to have seen them after the show to see how they held up. I can't imagine the edges not chipping wether they were paint or powder coat. maybe they have perfected the process

I want them. I want Zildjian to make a replica of them. I want to buy them. I want to put them on my set. And last but not least, I want to smash them.

I'll get flack for it but I think they sounded like a tribute band trying to pull of covers of The Who.

Except for the drummer, yes. Zak Starkey played for them since Keith Moon died. Interestingly enough, Keith Moon was Zak's godfather, and his father was none other than Ringo Starr. Also, it was not Ringo, but Keith that gave Zak his first drumset.
I thought they did pretty well, they are definitely old though. I LOVED those cymbals! I want to buy them, unfortunatly I have no money.

their music was really good but you could definitely tell they were wishing they were back in their prime. the voices were not what they used to be. but it was still good nonetheless

I thought they were OK. The vocals were a little dry and some sections of the music were thin but all in all, considering the difficulty of trying to get a good sound on TV from such a large venue, etc., it wasn't half bad. The laser show made up for what the band didn't bring. That was just friggin' awesome!
Zac's cymbals were cool. I'd never seen cymbals painted like that. Did you notice how big they were? I think that's the only way they could still have enough sustain after all that paint.

Wow, I thought they really brought it. It was a live performance in terribly difficult circumstances. None of the pre-recorded lip-synced, quantized, pitch rectified excuse for musical expression.
Nice job, gentlemen...

i missed it, but really glad the who didn't fold when things got rough. good times bad times, they always pick themselves up and push on. that is what music and life is all about.

I think the cymbals are one offs made to show off the classic Who motiff. The English style target. But then who knows. If response to the show was good, the manufacturer might mass make them as limited edition or something! LOL
all the best... |

The guitarist playing in the background is Pete's brother Simon. The bassist they are using is the session legend Pino Palladino.
The first drummer to take over after Keith's un-timely death was Kenny Jones. |

Also, Simon Phillips played with them a while, and Steve White.
Cheers Andy PS, Oh, and my ex wife was nanny to Roger Daltrey's Niece and Nephew, and we lived on his trout farm in Burwash Common for a while. I never got to play with him though. :-(

Zildjian has a very, very short article about the cymbals on their website, here.
Personally I didn't like the drums, couldn't hear the cymbals well and the tuning of the toms made everything sound like a snare drum. At least, to me. The extent of my Who knowledge though is the CSI: Miami theme song, so that may be a staple in their sound. |

All in all not a bad show but vocals were off ,{ but outside in a huge stadium will do that but still enjoyed watching 60 year olds rock. Petes arm must of been killing him after show because hes not supposed to twirle it after his injurey to it
