Default Led Zep found not guilty

The lawsuit that Spirit filed against Zeppelin ended. It kind of all seems like a big waste of time now. A song released 45 and 48 years ago and a lawsuit was filed now? They must really resent the rock gods. I guess it gave the bands a little more publicity while it lasted.

It was a ridiculous assertion. Yes it may have been similar but it is just a standard chord progression. What LZ did with the rest of the song was over the top phenomenal. Glad they lost the lawsuit.
Enjoy the little things in life because one day you`ll look back and realize they were the big things.

I had to listen to the Spirit version over and over until my brain was over saturated with their opening riff and then I had to endure one of the most overplayed LZ tune on the face of this earth, with a pair of headphones no less, and I still couldn't hear it.

What's next? The Eagles ripped off "Hotel California"? Oh please, say it isn't so. I'll go hide in a cave for the next 90 days.

It's just a similarly riffed chord structure. Nobody owns chord progressions.

It is all part of the music business. Someone always trying to sue a band over lyrics, music etc.
Wonder how the lawsuit against men at work over their song Down Under turned out? charges of stealing a riff from a children's campfire rhyme

It was very easy to see it wasn't copied.

They used two totally different guitars. How obvious.

Led Zeppelin did copy a few songs in the early days. They are very clearly covered. Do some research, you'll see and hear.

That's a funny one, as I'm pretty sure that flute melody in Down Under was intended to sound like the kids song (which is called Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree) but I don't think they knew that it was under copyright and I don't think the copyright owner was aware that Men at Work had used that melody. The connection was made after a music quiz show called Spicks and Specks had a question along the lines of 'what children's song melody is contained within Down Under'. Copyright owners caught wind of that and Men at Work had to pay up...

The kid's song does sound like a very slowed down version, that's for sure.

In the Down Under video the flute player is actually in a tree while playing "Kookaburra in a Tree". I think they knew what they were doing. Paying homage to inspiration. Sure you have to pay, but it's not ripping off. Same thing I said about Zep.
