My first was a Mapex V-series that I got rid of a couple months ago. I miss it. I 'upgraded' to a Gretsch Cat Ash, but I really don't like it as much as the Mapex. You live, you learn.....
    Yamaha Stage Custom 6 pc
    Assorted Zildjian
    Gibraltar hardware
    Zildjian laminate sticks
    LOTS of snares

Red ludwig sounds awesome and authentic! Good for you Fly..keep building!

Yeah..I guess that still counts chip!!

I unwrapped all the toms a while back and painted the high and mid toms OD green and was going to paint the floor tom as well. luckily I never got around to it because I'm now using it as the 16" floor tom (unwrapped with a tung oil finish) on my recently purchased tama natural finish kit.

Here is what it looked like set up for recording. And yes those are small trees being used as stands for the condenser mics.
Hey whatever it takes to get it to work! Cool pic

Check out the incredibly newbie positioning of everything.

I decided that I wanted something that would hold up better for the long run, so I got a Gretsch Catalina Maple kit 2007.

Note that the setup was evolving. That kit became this:

Ultimately, I decided to get a smaller kit, for those times when I might play at church in a cramped area. I got this used, and it has turned out to be a great addition. I play out with this one more than the Catalina kit.

Pastor Bob WOW!! I'd love to play any/all of those kits! They all look sooo polished and solid!! Great stuff

    Thanks FM.

The heads right now on them are total crap. They are the blue Evan Hydros from about 15 years ago or so. I bought them purely for looks and durability, not really for sound.

I'm going to maybe try some remo coated on there. I'd love to get the edges re-cut too, but probably won't any time soon.

Any new quality heads will do wonders on your kit there. Take it from me - using a beginner Westbury kit with Remo Clear Amb. on both batter and reso sides makes the drums sound dandy..of course with good tuning as well!

It's a Custom Aquarian on the front made by www.vintagelogos.com .They allowed me to pick the design and the hole ring too.

On the batter head is the Evans Emad. With some TLC of the drum itself including some muffing - the bass drum sounds crisp and solid.

Thanks guys, I do know I've been fortunate.

Ray, it's funny that you should mention whether pastors are allowed to have that much fun. I know that you meant it as funny, but there were many at my last church that thought that my drumming was a waste of time. I assume that they thought that drums should never see the inside of a church. Fortunately, my current church embraces my musician side.
