Bah it is only an Acrolite. Duh. My bad guys ;-) Still a great snare IMO.

Yes, I just found an old Ludwig Acrolite
snare in pretty good shape. Just a lot of rust. I will upload some pictures.

Irony behind it is, I was thinking about finding stuff at locally owned shops and pawn shops, so I decided to stop in. I saw it, asked him how much. He said $50! He obviously didn't know what it was. Then I bargained with him and got a omni ball double tom mount for my two toms for $10.

    I LOVE THESE STORES!

Added some before pictures. I just cleaned the snare completely, put on my DW snare wires, Evans Genera Dry Head, and Hazy 300 Reso Head and boy does this snare sound great! A nice pop sound, and so controlled! I love it!

Man and for $50 and about an hour and a half of manual labor, it was a steal! And ya, a supraphonic snare wouldn't be in that store. Though they are selling all kinds of stuff in there cheap. It is pretty much a dump of a store, just with great stuff. They have all kinds of Meinl cymbals along with some Zildjian and Sabians. There are a few Paistes and Dream (I am going to go back and buy them for CHEAP) cymbals as well. I also saw some vintage drum heads that were pretty much brand new.

The new pictures of the after product will be uploaded soon.

    Jason,

Nice job cleaning it up! Looks awesome. It's amazing how some tarnish, rust, etc... makes something look like garbage and yet it's so easily cleaned up to look great!

Let us know how it sounds!

I've always liked these snares when outfitted and tuned properly. I mean.. they have the supraphonic strainer and what not. Blue/Olive badge means 70's as well

Mr. Tama, that is a bang up restore job on that snare. It makes my Pearl snare clean up look like child's play. Great find, and great job cleanin' the ole girl up.

Of course, that depends on what you like as far as sound. I crank mine up pretty high on top with the bottom lower in pitch. This gives crazy stick and strainer response. I like an Ambassador hazy for the snare side.

Yeah it took about 2 hours, so not too bad! I am even considering giving it a new finish. Not sure what color (or even how to do it!) I want. Any suggestions/help?
