That is a whole lot of glue. Care to share your method? Do you vacuum form it?
As it says i am building a 40 ply maple shell snare drum with 6 ply reinforcement rings (as if they were needed). The size is 13x5.5.
Pic of the Shell the day i got it.
Pic after staining.
Will post pictures after it is assembled.

I ordered the Shell straight from Keller Shells. I just drilled it and got the hardware.

Wow! Those are bearing shelves vs edges. It's so thick that in the end it's more like a 10"x5.5"?

I have read builders comments on the merit of going so thick, most believe once you hit 3/4 of an inch, any additional thickness does nothing other than add weight. I imagine it would be loud, according to Pearl and Yamaha, thinner equals resonance, thicker equals volume. Thanks, for posting, keep us in the loop, I would like to hear it.

My buddy had a 40 ply. It weighed a million pounds and it was insanely LOUD.
I wish I could remember where I saw it, but someone built a snare using a Ford tire rim, it looked neat and actually sounded quite nice.
Found it.

You would have to get an Xtra wide hoop to fit that edge LOL
that things crazy. Did you drill it for 12lugs? The lug offset is cool.
Would go good with that 32" ride we had pics of . Could've been the loudest in the world if it was birch

With a wide counter cut like that on your bearing edge, you're going to get a very dry snare, and it's going to drop your pitch.
Nice man, that thing is gonna really own for the larger venues and outside playing. You might need some good technique to use it in small to medium rooms though, the volume on 20 ply and up is outta this world! Great job on the project so far.

I have a recording of it. It is very dry just as i wanted. Almost no resonance at all. I will post something of it as soon as i can get it mixed down.
I went with a Evans HD dry for the batter and a Evans Hazy 300 for the snare side. Give me a little while and i will post a clip.

Awesome! I love it! That may be the best sounding snare for rock that I've ever heard.
Sweet song too.

Nice! I really like that dry sound.
Sounds nice.
A great recording snare without a doubt. I love dry snares and this ticks my box!
And putting a HD Dry on a 40 ply snare = the driest snare ever!
