    Default Mini hi-hats

I recently cut down an old dented planet z hi-hat bottom, and paired it with an 8" wuhan splash to make mini hats. I love them, I mount them right above my main hats to the right, where you would normally see a splash. Does anyone else use mini hats? I think they have a nice crisp sound closed and usually use them to normal beats.

Pictures please! i'd love a pair of 10" or 12" Mini hats to compliment my 15" K lights, E.G The Special Recording 12" A Hi hats. I like to do a lot of mini fills with just the snare hats tom and main crash like 8 noted beats works great. I'd love to try it with 2 sets of hats

Call me over doer but I may just end up having 3 hats.

My main would be my A Custom, the second would be the SRs and the 3rd just might be wide thinner hats to the right of the ride (only question is if that'll be a cable hat).

One kit set up I use has two 8" bells, a Paiste 3000 on top and a Paiste 2002 on the bottom, as a mini hi-hat.

This kit set up has 3 set's of hi-hats, as you can see here:

oh no... you just opened up the possibility of FOUR hats!!!

    Now you've done it!

Nice mini cymbal array by the way.

I have various short sounds (crasher, stacks, tambourine) that are somewhat like hi-hats in different ways. But I've never played with 2 sets of hats. I've thought about it several times and I suspect it's only a matter of time before I actually try it...

On my "beach" set I use 10" hats. They consist of a UFIP splash (top) paired with a cut down unknown size Paiste 602. They sound incredible but delicate. Just right for play with acoustic guitars and such as one would normally do on a beach.

    all the best...

My buddy used to use 10" Zildjian hats. They sounded pretty cool.

I wonder if Zildjian will ever release Gavin Harrison's crash bells.

Update: a few days ago, I cut notches all around the bottom cymbal and drilled 4 holes near the bell. Now they project more and they sound a lot better.
