I need Tips on how to over Come playing

I play and the bass drum and hihats on the same speed Here is an example when i play fast on the snare and i should be playing slow on the bass drum to match this song but my foot wants to play fast its just a bad habit . Its really hard to explain i have ask the drummer at my church who has been playing for 16 years he said " You have to set it in your mind before your playing hands are going to a different tempo then your feet" but i just cant master it whatever speed im going with my foot my hands wants to play at the same speed.

If any one has had this problem plz let me know how you over came it and learned to play at different speeds.

Hey Unstabl3. Iv only been drumming for just over a year now. But i think this is what you mean. When i used to play the high hat i could never hit the bass drum twice and hit the high hat once at the same time like

and i tried doing that but my hand hitting the high hat would always hit the as as the bass drum. it used to anoy the crap! out of me.
you just have to pratice and pratice doing them and you will eventuly have it, thats what i did.

What you need to work on is some independance exercises.

Start simple, something like this. This is 8th notes on the Hi-hat, with quarter notes on the bass drum:

Moving 16th notes around on the bass drum, while making the hats play 8ths is another good exercise:

Ct|1e+a2e+a3e+a4e+a|

BD|-oo--oo--oo--oo-|

Hope those help. Once you've been playing for a while, you learn to forget about what your hands are doing, and you can focus on what you want to play with the bass or snare.
