Not sure what the SD1 sticks are........but if they are a big honkin pair of heavy sticks then yes, definately .
The heavier the better . They may be tiring to hold on to for long periods of time but the theory is that the heavy sticks will help build up the hand coordination / stick control making your playing much smoother when you play with your normal sticks .
Can you say "major chops ".
Pro Mark 2B baby...now THATS what i'm talking about!
When i first started, i was 10 years old and my teacher handed me a pair of 2 B's, i kind of hinted towards how heavy they where and he said get used to it, this is all your using for the next 2 years. Yup, it was definitely 3 before he let me switch ha ha I can't thank him enough for it! My stick control is solid!
i would look up scojos theyve got a rubber tip so theyre like a pad and you could bring them anywhere note: these are not set sticks
Oh,,,that means using heavy sticks to practise on the pad is good?
Then what other sticks are good for this kind of practise?
thank you
U mean the Vic Firth one?
It seems difficult to get one in HK...too bad
anyway thx
Yes , I believe those are the ones he is talking about .If you cant find them there then try a pair of your standard 2B sticks , they will work .
OK~I will try to find 2B then
VicFirth 2b is the go bro, or a Promark equivalent
i guess the idea behind the larger stick is to slow the playing down also .So you can get the notes/accents even ......
slow the playing down?
does it really work= =?
yes it does work. If those are marching sticks, they WILL definately help. They will help building wrist muscle and arm muscle, so you can do them faster with a pair of sticks like Vic Firth 5a. I was able to do rudiments a bit fast when I just used small sticks, but when I started marching band and trying for tenors, I built ALOT of muscle just working on doubles and paradiddles. They will also give you some caluses.. :icon_eek: But don't worry. The caluses will just prove yourself a drummer :drumset-3:
Marching sticks are HUGE sticks.http://www.vicfirth.com/products/corpsmaster_snare.html We use the white ones. They are HUGE sticks. I can barely spin them.
If this breaks any rules, please delete this.
Any marching stick is good for rudiments. I used them and when I used my regular vic firth 5a sticks, it helped me play alot of rudiments at least twice the speed I could before. Especially paradiddles and inverted paradiddles(lrrlrllrlrrlrllrl)
Heavier Parade drum sticks or Drum Corps model sticks are ideal to use when practicing on the pad. They will help to build strength, endurance and control. Any 3S model stick will do well or any of the newer Drum Corps model sticks. I still use the Regal colato Corps stick for practice on my pad. Silver Fox Corps sticks are excellent as well. You do not use these to play on the drum set but you will be amazed by how much faster and smoother your set playing is when you use your 5A's. Contrary to a lot opinion, 2B moedel sticks are good ones for playing snare drum in a concert band or orchestrs setting. These are not heavy enough to maximize practice pad work.
Hey thanks for starting this thread X. I just got back into drumming and have restarted the task of rudiment training and stick control. I just ordered two pairs (I loose stuff all the time) of ProMark 3S marching sticks that others have mentioned in the above posts.
I use the 5a stick so the 3S should be nice and heavy right?
I'm on fire to learn the right way of rudiment and stick control training and this should help in a BIG way.
DrumChat is sooooo awesome. Thanks guys!
I use Vater 3S' on the pad everyday.I've been use'n the same pair since the early 90's.
I usually go for a half or so.I'm sure it's more I seem to not even realize some times when I'm watching TV I'll sit on the pad "diddle'n" away. But a solid half hr. anyways with Stick Control or Syncopation or maybe just do rolls. No blinding speeds, just good and steady with the metronome.
