Hello!
What are your top 5 cymbals?
I exually don't know my top 5 because I am going to buy new cymbals but I have no idea which one...:drumset-3:
Zildjian
1. 20" K Ride
2. A Series 16" Medium Crash
3. 8" and 10" K Splash
4. Newbeat hi hats (i dont have one)
5. K 17" Dark Crash (i dont have one)
In this order:
Paragon 22" ride
Paragon 16" crash (2)
Paragon 13" hi hats
Paragon 18" crash
Paragon 19" small flange China
I've had a lot of different cymbals over the years and these are the top 5 that stood out for me
1. Zildjian 13" hats (they're old and both top and bottom weight in under 700 grams). Quick with a hint of brightness due to their size - soft and very responsive with a softer sound due to their weight. More pssshhht, less tsssst.
2. K 20" ride - Classic sound, good ping, not too washy, not too heavy. It'll play any genre you want.
3. Zildjian 18" A Medium Thin crash - the new design introduced in '13. I'm a big big fan of these. Not clangy like they were in recent past years, soft feel, bright but not at all harsh. Full, round sound. Can even be a little laid-back when played with a light hand. The perfect all-rounder.
4. 16" A Medium Thin crash. See above.
5. 17" K Dark crash. Dark, mellow yet with some projection
Custom A's. 14" hats. Not too light, not too heavy, not too dry, not too sweet.
16,17,18" crashes-medium thins. A 18" crash-medium, and a "A" 18" medium thin crash, with a Armand "A" medium thin crash. A 20" Custom A medium ride and a 10 Paiste splash.
They blend well together. Anything else makes it sound like a wine tasting.
Top 5 huh?
First, I'll agree with rickthedrummer on the 14" Zildjian A Custom hi-hats.
Next would be my 18" Zildjian A Custom Fast Crash.
20" Sabian AAX Studio Ride.
16" Zildjian A Custom Crash
18" Zildjian K Crash/Ride
Zildjian New Beats - all sizes
Zildjian K Ride 20"
Zildjian Sweet Ride 21"
Zildjian K Dark Thin Crash 18"
Sabian APX Medium Ride - 24"
My 15 new beat Hi hats then my AAX Raw bell 21 dry ride AAXExplosion crash 19,AAX Aero Crash 18, 16 studio crash AAX. Love them all they do what I ask of them
"First, I'll agree with rickthedrummer on the 14" Zildjian A Custom hi-hats."
Yeah, they do sound good.
"Next would be my 18" Zildjian A Custom Fast Crash"
I have a Zildjian A Custom Slow crash.
I hit it tonight, so I have to wait till tomorrow to hear it.
How did that Sabian sneak in there?
All Sabians in brilliant, except the china.
1: 20" AAX Stadium ride
2: 18" AAX Xplosion crash
3: 16" XS20 medium thin crash
4: 18" AAX Stage crash
5: 15" AAX Xtreme china

Wow! I new there would be many Sabian's and Zildjian's. But is there nobody with Meinl or Paiste?
My favourites are:
Meinl mb20 Heavy Bell Ride 22"
Paiste Rude 17" Wild crash
Meinl byzance dark 14" hihat
Meinl Generation X 18" signal crash/ klub ride
Zildjian K... I don't know which one it was, please help me! It was amazing, it was a 18" crash. I think medium but I am not sure and it had a thrashy sound. Does anyone know which one it could be?
1. Meinl Mb20 22" Heavy Bell Ride. It's a beast and the bell pierces like nobodies business but it's still not obnoxious and in the way.
2. Meinl Byzance 19" medium thin crash. It's great for riding on and also really punchy for accents.
3. Meinl Byzance vintage sand hats. They react perfectly when closed and when they're opened they're not too loud.
4. 18" Paiste 2002 crash. This has been my secondary crash for a long time, it mutes really well and it's punchy and gets out of the way faster than the Meinl.
5. It's a tie between my 2 chinas. My Sabian 19" Holy China and my 18" Meinl Byzance Brilliant china. They're both amazing but for different things, the Holy china is loud and it has a quick decay because of the holes. The Byzance is smaller but it sounds bigger because it's thicker and not full of holes and it just has the perfect china sound for me.
As you can tell i'm a Meinl fan.
1. Paragon 22" ride
2. Paragon 14" hats
3. 15" Zildjian A Custom
4. 17" Zildjian A Custom
5. Paragon Splash.
I could go on...but you asked for 5.
[QUOTE=IWannaRock!;612342]Wow! I new there would be many Sabian's and Zildjian's. But is there nobody with Meinl or Paiste?
I've got 2 Sigs. in my set up.
Puts hand up.....hey I'm one of the resident Paiste nuts! Lol.
Okay here we go....which ones to choose, which ones to choose? Hmmm....(clattering of bronze as I sort through what's what)...
#1....13" Paiste Sound Formula Reflector Hi-Hats
Been my mainstay pair of hi-hats for well over a couple of decades, so versatile from rock and pop, fusion, hard rock, metal and other heavier styles.
#2....20" Paiste Sound Formula Full Ride
Purchased around the same time as the above mentioned hi-hats, though not with Paiste's Reflector finish, out of the nearly dozen rides that I own, this is still part of my sound. Has a great bell that can cut through without being obnoxious, yet at the same time, when played in the 'sweet spot' it has a great controlled cushion of overtones.
#3....14" Paiste Crystal Crash
A pretty thin sort of cymbal, with an unusual 'square-topped' bell. Owned this now for about 4-5 years. Blends in so well with an 18" Sound Formula Thin Crash, and surprisingly with an old-school 16" Alpha Thin Crash that I own. Frequently teamed up with the 16" Alpha Crash, 13" Sound Formula Reflector Hi-Hats and 20" Sound Formula Ride.
#4....8" Paiste Signature Thin Splash
I own a big number of small sound effect cymbals from various Paiste series, but the one that will appear in not only my kit set ups but also in percussion rigs is this one. Has the sweetest of all the splash voices I've got, quick, crisp and fits the right spot in the sound spectrum.
#5....My set of 4 Paiste 2002 Cup Chimes....sized from 5" to 6.5"
Might have to make #5 a set, as just singling one out wouldn't do them justice, they all make a pretty noise! Like my splash, I use these in both drum kit as well as percussion set ups. Unlike bell cymbals, which ring for quite a length of time, these quickly get out of the way, with a tone character reminiscent of glass shattering, rather than a bell clang.
Honourable mention: My set of Paiste 2000/2000 Sound Reflectors
14" 2000 Heavy Hi-hat, 16" Crash, 18" Power Crash, 20" Ride and a 'splash' specially cut down from a 14" Thin China. Look at them, I mean just look at them. Lovely to play on.

16" Cie Vintage Zildjian Crash
18" A Custom Fast Crash

My top five, (three) that I like and own: (all subject to change on a whim however)
1. Paiste Signature 14" Dark Crisp Hi-Hats - Dark and Crispy. Great sounding combination.
2. Paiste Signature 17" Full Crash - I purchased this second-hand, and it was my first Signature cymbal. I immediately fell for its sound. Other Signature purchases were made because of this cymbal.
3. Paiste Signature 20" Dry Ride - Goes well together with my Dark Crispy Hi-Hats.
4. -
