Rufus "Speedy" Jones
Later he played with Red Allen and Maynard Ferguson's Orchestra (1959-1963). After that, he led his own quintet (1963-1964) and made one album. He started becoming famous with his amazing drum work with Count Basie and Woody Herman in the mid
1960s and later with Duke Ellington. He also played with James Brown.
His one album is "Five on Eight" which was release in 1964. He also recorded and played with Count Basie, Duke Ellington (38 albums), Maynard Ferguson (12 albums), Al Grey, Lionel Hampton, Johnny Hodges, Amos Milburn, Arthur Prysock, Oscar Peterson, Stan Kenton, Ella Fitzgerald, and many others.
So, he is a rare drummer who played with Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Maynard Furguson, Stan Kenton, and Woody Herman who were all big band legends.
He also played with two bass drums along with Loui Bellson and long before Ginger Baker.
Wow! Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water - this is Rufus playing a short solo with the Duke Ellington Orcestra.
