What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen on a gig?
I'll start. I used to play this night club years ago where we would play 4 sets per night, Monday through Saturday and the DJ would spin dance music during our breaks.
This club was very strict about songs the DJ could and could not play. Well one week there's a new DJ. He was actually pretty good. At some point during the night, he got into with management because he kept coming in giving him hell about some of the songs he was playing.
So the DJ had finally had enough. We end our set and turn it over to the DJ, he says something over the mic laced with expletives and turns his music up to what seemed like 200db. Then he sees the manager hightailing it towards the DJ booth so he locks it from the inside and breaks off the key inside the lock!
They had to call security and no one could get him out of there for like an hour but the dance floor was packed the whole time!
They finally got him out of there somehow and escorted him from the property, I think he might have been arrested. After that, we referred to him as DJ Delirious. :icon_lol:
Anyone have any tales from the big gig?

I used to play in this top 40 band in Dallas about 8 years ago.. Well our singer this guy named "Mike" wanted to show off for the ladies so he decides to try to be like David Lee Roth and jumped off this 5' foot tall stage trying to do the splits in mid air and wound up landing on his ***! Pretty funny.. My father tells me about a time he had a singer named David Adcock and he use to jump up this wooden stage rail and walk around .. Well one day he tried that and the rail came apart and he landed on this 2x6 and a nail went into his butt and he had to finish singing the song with blood gushing down his pants...

So many years ago I was actually out at the bar as a spectator just listening to a bar rock band play.
Started chit chatting with the band before and during sets and the drummer of courser. . .
but each set he seemed to get more and more intoxicated until no joke he fell right off his throne........
The band was just completely embarrassed and I said if you guys want to keep playing I'll take over.
So low and behold we literally set the drummer to the side where he fell asleep and I played the last set.
Re: What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen on a gig?
I'm still counting all the ridiculous, totally stupid things I have seen in somewhere around 45 years of gigging, ( Or to put it another way, Zack has more snare drums than I have years gigging) most of which were in my days playing in bar bands. That started when I was 16 (phoney proof, the standard of the day in NY and NJ). I'm up to about 650 and counting.
I can't include what is probably the single most stupid thing that I was involved in because it has nothing to do with gigging.
Zack is a young guy, so when he says "so many years ago", he means Oct of 2017.

How about an alcoholic lead singer/rhythm guitarist who could do a perfect face down prat fall Jerry Lewis style in the middle of a song?!!
all the best...
Re: What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen on a gig?
I knew this old steel player named Gene.. and he couldn't play for crap.. But during a set he stop playing and be looking up under his steel like he was gonna change the oil or something.. He died so I guess I shouldn't slam him.. Just so many amateur musicians out there that have no business trying play gigs.. If you don't have your chops together why go make a fool of yourself?

Re: What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen on a gig?
Was playing with the VFW orchestra in New Orleans back in the day.
President Nixon was going to address the convention , and we had rehearsed Hail to the Chief quite a few times before he was scheduled to appear.
We would play one phrase over and over until he reached the podium and then the director would give the cut sign, signaling us stop at the end of the next phrase.
Well the piccolo player ,who had gotten quite drunk the night before, missed the cut and continued to play.
The director bent over ,looked at him and said I'm going to shove that effing piccolo up your αss.

An extremely intoxicated dude in makeup and a dress, giving us a free peep show on the dance floor....then coming up on stage and putting the moves on our guitar player (while we were playing). Of course, our guitar player didn’t realize it was a dude at the time.

I played a national youth camp in Nashville when I was 17. Our group was told all instruments were provided and the drummer didnt need anything - backline kit with sticks provided.
This was the gig that broke me from not taking my own sticks.
Drummer before me "accidently" took the sticks. I ended up playing three songs with ink pens. The drums were running through the system and people said it actually sounded like I was using sticks.
