Anyone have issues using someone elses Kick drum ?
The topic of sometimes having difficulty using someone elses drum kit has been discussed. However, i find the biggest challenge when using someone elses kit is being able to effectively use the bass drum which is probably due to the pedal they are using and/ or tension its set on.
Trying to do something more advanced on someone elses bass drum has always been a challenge to me. Any of you guys experience this? Do you guys just keep it very simple when using someone elses drum kit? I know a good drummer should be able to adapt, but damn, that bass drum issue has always caused me problems.

No, never played anyone else's kit but my own and vice versa.
Re: Anyone have issues using someone elses Kick drum ?
Yes just about everytime actually. If I know I am playing/sharing someone else's kit I always try to bring my own pedal for that very reason. Otherwise I try to keep it simple if I am using someone else's pedal.

I don't mind using someone else kit or kick drum... but I must use my own pedals.

I don't mind but they usually get cranky if I don't bring it back.
Some people.

If it’s just sitting in for a few songs, it’s not a big deal. If it’s a full set, then it can create issues for me. I can usually adapt within 3 or 4 songs. It’s usually the throne and the monitor system that bother me most if I sit in on someone else’s kit.

It's mainly the ones that crank it to the hilt. If I have advance notice, I always bring my pedal.

Trying to do some bonham style kicks are one heck of a challenge on someone elses kick drum.

As others have said, if possible it's best to BYOP. Last Friday I got lazy and just used the kit and pedals as they were. I regret it.
Re: Anyone have issues using someone elses Kick drum ?
I always bring my own pedal. Replacing the kick is loaded with problems!
Re: Anyone have issues using someone elses Kick drum ?
Yes, but I always bring my own pedal and throne ...
Re: Anyone have issues using someone elses Kick drum ?
Yes definitely. I think that is something that you can't help. I compare it to driving someone else's car. At first you will need to adjust to it. Not sure if the best if this is the best way to compare though :-)
