well it seems like im the youngest so far to start off i got my first kit when i was 4-5 it was a red percussion plus 5 piece before that i would always tap on things or bang on my moms pots and pans...

i think people naturally gifted pick it up and learn faster and practice makes them advance faster but you dont have to be "gifted" to learn how to play.

They have out the earphones they call "mushroom technology" its like foam that goes in your ears i have them for my ipod it helps when my dad is playing old country music in the car lol but they work...

I would say just listen to the drums over and over and try it slow, try to get it then speed it up and again and again until you get it.
